A+E Global Networks expects to launch a handful of new digital series while continuing to make the programming for outlets like Lifetime, History and A&E for which it is best known. The company, controlled by Disney and Hearst, has also struck new pacts between Lifetime and Queen Latifah and Taraji P. Henson that will have them take part in some of the cable network’s popular movies.
Lifetime has announced new original movie deals with Queen Latifah and Flavor Unit as well as Taraji P. Henson with TPH Studios and Fox Entertainment Studios. The network will enter the vertical storytelling space with “Tides of Temptation”, a micro drama that is a digital offshoot of Lifetime’s upcoming original movie “Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise with You.”
Other Lifetime movie will feature Sherri Shepherd, Valerie Bertinelli and Taye Diggs.
New offerings from A&E include documentaries built around the infamous Laci Peterson case; John Gotti Jr. and John Gotti III; and Johnny Cash. Jim Belushi will stand at the center of a new series that examines police officers working with K9 partners.
History Channel will unveil two new digital-first series. “Mistakes That Made America” examines surprising blunders that reshaped culture and innovation. “Cracking Up” imagines classical marble busts as podcast hosts delivering commentary on modern life through the lens of ancient history.
New series will be hosted by Kevin Bacon, Ted Danson. Tom Selleck and Dolph Lundgren. A new two-hour documentary, “102 Minutes Inside the Towers,” is produced by Robin Roberts and marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001 with accounts from people who were inside the World Trade Center.
