The next Star Wars Celebration is right around the corner, raising questions about what could possibly be revealed for the future. Star Wars Celebration 2027 will take place in Los Angeles over the weekend of April 1-4, following the convention's biennial schedule. However, this is expected to be a very different Celebration, given Lucasfilm's focus on upcoming Star Wars movies.
One of these movies is coming a year earlier, with The Mandalorian & Grogu's story spearheading Star Wars' return to theaters. Although this does place the franchise in an exciting position, there has been an overall lack of clarity about which movies will follow The Mandalorian & Grogu. Aside from the confirmed Star Wars: Starfighter in 2027, the future of the franchise, be it on the big or small screen, is uncertain.
Enter Star Wars Celebration 2027. As the name of the convention suggests, there is no better place for Star Wars fans to share their love of the franchise George Lucas created almost 50 years ago. Naturally, Lucasfilm began using this space as a key time to advertise what is coming across film, TV, printed media, and video games.
Star Wars Celebration 2027 will be no different. Moreover, the convention is arguably more necessary than ever, given the state of transition in which Star Wars finds itself. With that in mind, here are eight predictions for what Lucasfilm may reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2027, across all facets of the vast transmedia franchise.
8 Home Release Of The 1977 Original Star Wars Movie
Perhaps the biggest "slam dunk," so to speak, for Lucasfilm to announce at Star Wars Celebration 2027 is the home release of 1977's Star Wars. In December 2025, Lucasfilm confirmed that the original, unedited, theatrical cut of 1977's Star Wars will be released in theaters in February 2027 to honor the film's 50th anniversary. Absent of all the subsequent Star Wars Special Edition changes George Lucas has made over the decades, the film will bring the franchise's first project to the big screen in a way that it hasn't been in decades.
Three months later, should the re-release be as successful as is expected, Lucasfilm will have the opportunity to take this a step further. For years, there has been a clear desire to see Lucas' original cut of Star Wars, and that will finally be fulfilled. If this desire turns into box office profits, Lucasfilm can then announce the release of the original Star Wars cut on home media.
Be it on Blu-ray. 4K, or releasing the original cut on Disney+, Lucasfilm's release of Star Wars at home, 50 years after the film's release, seems like a perfect way to kick off Star Wars Celebration 2027.
7 The Future Of The Mandalorian & The New Republic Timeline
Image via Disney+After The Mandalorian & Grogu's release in May 2026, only Ahsoka season 2 is confirmed as a project in Star Wars' New Republic timeline. The New Republic era of Star Wars has been a big focus since The Mandalorian released, but the future is somewhat uncertain. The Mandalorian & Grogu is a big reason for this, given that many instead expected the release of The Mandalorian season 4 before Dave Filoni's New Republic movie, announced at Celebration 2023, concluded this sub-franchise.
That said, there has been no news at all about Filoni's movie, and The Mandalorian & Grogu has seemingly replaced it. All of this means that Star Wars Celebration 2027 has the opportunity to shed some light on where that storyline is going. Be it a theatrical sequel to The Mandalorian & Grogu, The Mandalorian season 4, Ahsoka season 3, or beyond, Dave Filoni, as Lucasfilm's new Chief Creative Officer, should reveal what comes next.
If The Mandalorian & Grogu performs well, a sequel is highly likely. This could have a positive knock-on effect for Filoni's previously announced film, which could follow on directly from Ahsoka season 2. Regardless of conjecture, Lucasfilm can provide definitive details about where the New Republic timeline is heading.
6 A Release Date For Rey's Jedi Order Movie
One of the other Star Wars movies announced at Celebration 2023 was Rey Skywalker's New Jedi Order movie. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film was confirmed to be set almost 20 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey, who seeks to rebuild the Jedi in a new era of the galaxy.
Since then, the only announcements provided for this movie have been the swapping of screenwriters. Steven Knight was confirmed to be writing the script initially, before being replaced by George Nolfi in January 2025. Since then, little has been heard about the project. Star Wars Celebration 2027 will come over two years after Nolfi was hired, hopefully indicating Lucasfilm has found its screenwriter for the movie.
If so, the convention could see Lucasfilm finally reserve a release date and outline a production timeline for Rey's New Jedi Order movie.
5 A Final Trailer For Star Wars: Starfighter
As alluded to, Star Wars: Starfighter is the only other confirmed upcoming Star Wars movie after The Mandalorian & Grogu. The former wrapped shooting in December 2025 ahead of its May 2027 release date, a month after Star Wars Celebration. Thanks to this timeline, it is almost guaranteed that at least one trailer for Star Wars: Starfighter will have been released once Star Wars Celebration kicks off next April.
Still, there will be a month of promotion left to go for Lucasfilm. As such, Star Wars Celebration 2027 is the perfect time to hype up the movie in front of a sea of Star Wars fans by releasing a final trailer. Introduced by star Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy, this panel could make Star Wars: Starfighter one of the most anticipated movies of 2027 by featuring it in a big way.
4 Updates On Various Star Wars Video Games
Moving beyond Star Wars' feature films, Star Wars Celebration 2027 is perfect for other forms of media, too. Over the last few years, several Star Wars video games have been announced, with Lucasfilm seemingly pushing for more big, triple-A projects in the medium. Star Wars: Outlaws was released in 2024, with 2026 marking the release of Star Wars: Galactic Racer.
Going beyond that, though, several high-profile projects could be delved into at Star Wars Celebration 2027. The first, and perhaps most exciting, of these is the third installment of the Star Wars: Jedi series. The first two games followed Order 66 survivor Cal Kestis, a character whom many fell in love with, leading to endless theories about his appearance in Star Wars movies and shows.

Star Wars: Jedi 3 has been confirmed, but a release date and story are yet to be announced. Star Wars: Eclipse, a decision-based game announced a few years ago, is in the same situation. Lucasfilm has the perfect chance to unveil more about both projects at Star Wars Celebration 2027.
Two other games that have been confirmed recently in the Star Wars universe surround the timeline of the Old Republic. The first, a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, was first announced in 2021 and has undergone significant development changes. Nonetheless, that development is still ongoing.
Another, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, was announced in December 2025. Both of these projects, despite being on very different ends of the production timeline spectrum, could be featured at Star Wars Celebration 2027 to shine a light on Star Wars storytelling in a medium many would like to see more of.
3 A New Star Wars Animated Series Announcement
Where TV is concerned, Star Wars has tapered after an influx of small-screen entertainment between 2019 and 2025. Star Wars' animated shows were a big part of this, from the revival of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and spin-offs like Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Star Wars Tales, and Maul - Shadow Lord to standalone series like Star Wars: Visions and Young Jedi Adventures.
Beyond 2026, though, there are seemingly few projects left in the animated Star Wars wheelhouse. 2026 features the release of Maul - Shadow Lord and Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi. After that, only a second season of the former has been announced. After having a constant churn of Star Wars animated shows since Star Wars Rebels began in 2014, this is somewhat of a shock.

Since 1985, 10 TV shows make up Star Wars’ animated franchise. Some have received critical acclaim, while others have fallen by the wayside.
Fortuitously, though, Star Wars Celebration 2027 is coming at the perfect time. It will take place only a few months after the last confirmed Star Wars animated show has been released, and it is the first convention since Dave Filoni, a massive advocate for animated media, has become Lucasfilm's Chief Creative Officer. With all this in mind, Star Wars Celebration 2027 is perfect to announce one or several new animated TV shows set in a galaxy far, far away.
2 A Slate For Upcoming Star Wars TV Shows
Disappointingly, Star Wars' live-action TV shows are in the same unclear spot as its animated projects. After Ahsoka season 2 releases in 2026, there are no live-action shows confirmed to be in development at Lucasfilm. After the likes of Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and more in recent years, this is almost unheard of.
What Lucasfilm has planned for Star Wars' live-action TV department going forward remains to be seen, which is why Star Wars Celebration 2027 is the perfect place to reveal exactly that. The aforementioned New Republic shows, like Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew, could be focused on, as could more TV shows set in other areas of the Star Wars timeline.
1 Updates On Simon Kinberg's Star Wars Trilogy
The final and, admittedly, the most exciting prediction for Star Wars Celebration 2027 is an update on Simon Kinberg's new Star Wars trilogy. Rumors and reports about these projects have been circulating for a while now, with Kathleen Kennedy confirming during her exit interview (via Deadline) as Lucasfilm's President that it is still in development.
Conducted in January 2026, this interview saw Kennedy confirm that Kinberg had turned in several drafts that Lucasfilm really liked, but that he was working on another that would be passed over in March of that year. Then, Kennedy stated, "I know that Dave [Filoni] and Lynwen [Brennan] are very much on board with what Simon’s doing, and that would be a new trilogy."
Brennan is handling the business side of Lucasfilm after Kennedy's departure, working closely with Filoni as the CCO. With these two seemingly heavily on board for what Kinberg is doing, it seems almost a guarantee that Star Wars Celebration 2027 will shed more light on the trilogy. This will happen over a year after Kinberg was reported to have handed in another draft, meaning some solid details could be provided.
With Filoni having worked closely with Kinberg on Star Wars Rebels, too, this seems all the more likely. Some reports have claimed that Kinberg's trilogy will be the next step in the Saga; whether that is the Skywalker Saga as Episodes X, XI, and XII, or the broader Star Wars saga is unclear, but Celebration 2027 is the ideal convention to confirm either possibility.
With Lucasfilm making such a concerted effort to bring the franchise back to the big screen, a new trilogy that has long been in the dark and, thus, long been hyped up, seems a perfect way to do so. At Star Wars Celebration 2027, Kinberg's trilogy could be unveiled as the next dominant phase of the galaxy we all know and love.
