For every new blockbuster hit on Netflix, there is an equally brilliant series that has come before it — but may be lurking in the shadows of those bigger productions. Netflix is a streaming platform that consistently brings in fresh content, which, unfortunately, allows for some shows to go unnoticed or forgotten in the great shuffle of things. These series are brilliant hidden gems, with boundary-pushing ideas and creative storytelling that are sadly waiting for that one Netflix subscriber to watch and fall absolutely in love.
Standouts like Sense8, an incredible sci-fi series with stunning visuals and an amazing story, and Marianne, a chilling French horror that is likely the perfect choice for any horror lover, are series that are horribly overlooked by mainstream audiences and deserve more hype and buzz. Included on this list are shows of similar caliber — fantastic works of art that are often missed by many who indulge in the streaming platform.
'Kingdom' (2019–2021)
Image via NetflixIt's unfair how much this thrilling series has gone largely unnoticed by mainstream Netflix viewers. Set in medieval Korea during the Joseon dynasty, Kingdom stands as a zombie thriller following the mysterious spread of a plague that resurrects the dead. At the helm of the series is Crown Prince Lee Chang (Ju Ji-hoon), who is tasked with finding out the truth about the deadly plague while halting the schemes of those vying for power.
The show deserves so much more hype. The series features insane action with fast-moving zombies that adds to the epic thrill. While the Korean series has earned rave reviews internationally, it still remains relatively hidden from many mainstream Netflix audiences. Those who have found Kingdom have dubbed it an underrated horror gem, one that deserves a much bigger audience and fan base. For any Netflix subscriber who adores a good thrill, Kingdom is a must-see, as it stands as one of the best-kept secrets on the streaming platform.
'Teenage Bounty Hunters' (2020)
Image via NetflixTeenage Bounty Hunters is a teen drama hidden among Netflix's bigger hits and deserves far more attention. The series centers around 16-year-old twin sisters Sterling (Maddie Phillips) and Blair Wesley (Anjelica Bette Fellini), who, quite accidentally, become apprentice bounty hunters. By day, they both stand as sweet girls who attend a Christian high school, but by night, they are chasing down baddies on the run.
Teenage Bounty Hunters may have been one of those awesome series gone entirely too soon, but during its initial run, it never saw much light, going relatively unnoticed, despite its witty dialogue, sharp humor, and bold take on teenage drama. The incredible series wields tons of heart, with a combination of fast-paced action-comedy moments. The coming-of-age series may have seen only a single season and a tiny, fervent fan base, but it's a fantastic binge-watch that is, unfortunately, still quietly hidden among Netflix's bigger titles.
'Marianne' (2019)
Image via NetflixThis might be one of Netflix's best horror series that most Netflix subscribers have never seen. Marianne is a French horror show that follows young horror novelist Emma Larsimon (Victoire Du Bois) as she makes her return to her hometown. There, she discovers that the evil witch from her stories has manifested into the real world and is demanding that she continue writing in order to unleash more evil.
Marianne stands as one of Netflix's scariest shows, a frightening watch that most on the platform have never even heard of. Those who found the series when it premiered back in 2019 lauded it as a must-watch for all horror lovers. Though it was incredibly loved by those who came across it, Marianne was sadly canceled after a single season. With so little promotion during its run and its fast cancellation, the epic horror series was overshadowed and continues to stand as a deeply underrated gem that no one seems to be watching.
'Supacell' (2024–Present)
Image via NetflixSupacell is a criminally underrated superhero sci-fi drama that is continuously overlooked by Netflix audiences. The British series centers around a group of South Londoners who have developed incredible superpowers, ranging from insane speed to time travel, seemingly spontaneously. At the center is Michael Lasaki (Tosin Cole), a powered individual himself, who takes on the task of bringing the group together in order to defeat a powerful evil.
Supacell offers its viewers a fresh take on the superhero genre. It's a unique show that is grounded and character-focused, combining social realism, emotional depth, and intense action. Supacell is a true standout, yet it is so rarely spoken about. With its enticing mixture of comic-book flair and gritty realism, it is truly unjust that this series is already buried beneath the consistent wave of content featured on the platform.

REVEAL MY ALIGNMENT →
Your Alignment Has Been Determined Your Place in the Force
The scores below reveal how the Force sees you. Your highest number is your true alignment. Read on to understand what that means — and what it will cost you.
🔵 Jedi Master
🟡 Padawan
🔴 Sith Lord
⚫ Inquisitor
⚪ Grey Jedi
Disciplined, compassionate, and deeply attuned to the living Force, you have walked the path long enough to understand its demands — and accept them. You lead not through authority alone, but through example. You have felt the pull of the dark side and chosen otherwise, every time. That is not certainty. That is courage.
You are earnest, powerful, and brimming with potential — and you know it, which is both your greatest asset and your most dangerous flaw. You act before you think, trust your gut over your training, and sometimes confuse impatience for bravery. The Masters see something in you, though. The question isn't whether you have what it takes — it's whether you'll be patient enough to find out.
You are not simply dangerous — you are certain, and that is worse. You have decided what the galaxy needs, and you have decided you are the one to deliver it. Your power is genuine and formidable, earned through sacrifice that would have broken lesser beings. But examine your victories carefully. Every Sith believed their cause was righteous. The dark side's cruelest trick is that it agrees with you.
You were forged in fire and reshaped by those who found you at your lowest. You serve, because service gave you structure when you had none. Your allegiance is not to an ideology — it is to survival and to the master who gave you purpose. But there is something buried beneath the conditioning. The Jedi you hunt? You recognize them. Because you remember what it felt like before the choice was taken from you.
You have looked at the Jedi Code and the Sith Code and found both of them incomplete. You walk the line not out of indecision but out of conviction — you genuinely believe both extremes miss something essential. The Jedi don't fully trust you. The Sith think you're wasting your potential. They're both partially right. But so are you.
↻ RETAKE THE QUIZ
'Running Point' (2025–Present)
This feel-good series may be fairly new, but it still hasn't garnered the attention it truly deserves, completely lost in the Netflix shuffle. Running Point follows former party girl Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson), who is unexpectedly thrown into the role of president of her family's professional basketball team.
Running Point debuted in February 2025, featuring hilarious characters and even more comedic situations. The series also holds a lot of heart and family-building moments. While Running Point is new, with two seasons under its belt, it seems that it's stuck under the bulk of Netflix's bigger series. Its snappy humor, dynamite ensemble cast, and uplifting vibes are unfortunately going unseen by many viewers who would undoubtedly adore the comedic family drama.
'The Get Down' (2016–2017)
Image via NetflixThe Get Down doesn't get nearly enough of the hype it deserves, as it stands as one of the best shows on Netflix. The vibrant musical drama is set in the South Bronx during the late 1970s and follows a crew of talented teens, led by Zekiel "Zeke" Figuero (Justice Smith), a budding poet, and singer Mylene Cruz (Herizen F. Guardiola).
The energy of The Get Down is quite intoxicating. It hosts an incredible soundtrack, brilliant style, and an overall lavish production. Unfortunately, it stands as a criminally underrated series that barely gets any love. The show struggles to find that massive audience that so many others have garnered. The Get Down brings the origins of hip-hop to life, and despite all of its great qualities, including killer music and rich storytelling, no one seems to be watching.
'Sense8' (2015–2018)
Image via NetflixThis incredible and bold sci-fi series has been ignored for far too long. Sense8 follows eight strangers around the globe who suddenly become psychically linked. The group, now known as a sensate, can feel, share, and use each other's skills and emotions. Together, they take on an evil and powerful organization that is fiercely hunting them.
Sense8 may not be as popular as other shows on Netflix, but those who have come across it are die-hard fans, claiming that it stands as the best series of all time. The show has fantastic cinematography, emotional storytelling, and a diverse cast. It's a true celebration of inclusivity and empathy, a heartfelt watch for those willing to take a chance on it. Unfortunately, its high production costs led to its run being cut short. Although Netflix completed the series due to the will of the fans, it still has sadly never received the widespread recognition or acclaim that matched its brilliant quality.
'One Day' (2024)
Image via NetflixWith each hit Netflix pumps out, incredible romance dramas like One Day tend to slip through the cracks, despite being one of the greatest shows featured on the platform. The British romance is a limited series based on David Nicholls' novel and follows the beautifully epic 20-year relationship of Emma (Ambika Mod) and Dexter (Leo Woodall).
One Day is a faithful adaptation and features a heart-wrenchingly brilliant story. Its quality shines as a true gem, even hidden among the more popular series on the platform. Those who have found said gem laud it for its emotional depth, sweeping love story, and fantastic performances. Unfortunately, it seems Netflix subscribers are hesitant to take that trusting leap. Despite its quiet release, this Netflix original is one of the highest caliber that is continuously overlooked.
