Tommy Lee Jones is best known for his role as Ed Tom Bell in No Country for Old Men, but more recently, he teamed up with a Dark Knight veteran for a critically panned psychological thriller that’s redeeming itself on streaming. Jones stars alongside Aaron Eckhart in Wander, a conspiracy thriller following a mentally unstable private investigator who convinces himself that the case is linked to the death of his daughter. Wander is streaming on Paramount+ in America, where the film has crept into the top 10 over the course of the last week. It currently sits at #8.
Wander was first released at the end of 2020, but the film was primarily available on digital. It did not receive a wide theatrical release, which led to it grossing only a few thousand dollars at the box office. Wander was panned by critics and audiences, earning poor marks of 32% from critics and 29% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to Jones and Eckhart, Wander also stars Heather Graham and Raymond Cruz. The former is famous for starring in The Hangover, and the latter is known for his electric role in Breaking Bad.
Tim Doiron wrote the script for Wander, and April Mullen directed the film. Doiron has not written anything in the years since Wander was released, but he has worked on the screenplays for other movies like 88 and Dead Before Dawn 3D. Mullen more recently directed the sci-fi thriller Simulant, and she also directed episodes of Sullivan’s Crossing and Ginny & Georgia. Both shows are currently streaming on Netflix.
Has Tommy Lee Jones Ever Won an Oscar?
Tommy Lee Jones is a four-time Academy Award nominee, and he won the award in 1994 for his performance in The Fugitive. The film also stars Harrison Ford, and it was directed by Andrew Davis. He earned his first nomination only a few years prior in JFK, and he more recently earned nominations for his performances in Lincoln (2012) and In the Valley of Elah (2007). Many feel that he should have been nominated for his performance in No Country for Old Men, but he was overshadowed by Javier Bardem, who won the award for his commanding performance as Anton Chigurh. No Country for Old Men also won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Be sure to check out Wander on Paramount+ in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
