Robert Wood is a writer and editor based out of Cheshire, England. He is the author of 'The False Elephant: and 99 Other Unreasonably Short Stories' - 100 stories, each told in exactly 100 words.

Rob got into comics via Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man and the UK anthology 'The Mighty World of Marvel,' which was running Frank Miller's Daredevil, Classic Hulk and Contest of Champions II.

Prior to journalism, he worked in copywriting and copyedited for Oxford University Press. He is on X as @PinchTwigs and Instagram as roobwoodjourno.

The original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon, just underwent a dramatic redesign, debuting a tokusatsu-inspired costume with wild new powers.

Immortal Legend Batgirl Officially Debuts

In this week's Immortal Legend Batman #6 - from Kyle Higgins, Mat Groom, Erica D'Urso, Igor Monti, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain and Becca Carey - Barbara Gordon becomes the 'Immortal Legend Batgirl'. In this world, heroes can harness extradimensional darkness to enhance their physique and allow them to unleash energy-based attacks.

After defeating this world's version of the Joker, Bruce Wayne decides to stand down from being Batman. However, following the death of her father, Barbara feels the world needs heroes more than ever - and she's willing to take his place.

Immortal Legend Batgirl wears light blue, yellow and grey armor with orange detailing, with a full-face helmet sporting black bat ears. Her prominent utility belt includes grappling rope, and she sports a blue and yellow cape.

As Immortal Legend Batgirl, Barbara has enhanced strength, speed and durability. The combat discipline each hero uses defines how their energy powers manifest (Batman wields darkness, Robin light, and Nightwing balance), but it's likely she'll be able to throw batarangs made of Dark Matter.

The issue ends by setting up a mysterious version of Red Hood as the Bat-Family's next villain - a clash which will tell fans more about Barbara's powers as Immortal Legend Batgirl, once the inevitable sequel eventually arrives.

This Isn't Batgirl's Only Epic New Costume This Month

dc ko gives batgirl a new costume, replacing batman

Strangely, Immortal Legend Batman isn't the only comic this month in which Dan Mora draws an alt-reality Barbara Gordon in a new costume as Batman's replacement. Over in DC K.O.: Knightfight #4 (Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora), Batman is threatened with potential futures where his allies replace him, including one where Babs becomes Batwoman.

Knightfight's art shows Batgirl in a Batman-esque costume with full cowl, not showing her hair like her traditional design. She also wears a blue cape and bladed yellow gauntlets.

It sems that February is the month to be a fan of the original Batgirl, as Barbara Gordon receives two stylish redesigns as Batman's official successor.

Immortal Legend Batman #6 is coming now from DC Comics.
