After producing Netflix’s Diddy series “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” 50 Cent is stepping in front of the camera for his own documentary project.
The three-part docuseries will trace his evolution from Curtis Jackson, a dreamer from the streets of Queens, to the internationally known music and business titan 50 Cent, the Grammy-winning recording artist behind hits like “In da Club” and “Candy Shop” and the media mogul who launched G-Unit Film & Television Inc.
50 Cent is also an actor whose breakout role was in 2005’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” loosely based on the rapper’s life and named after his 2003 album. He played Marcus Grier, a drug dealer who pursues a career in hip-hop. He also appeared in “Power,” which he executive produced, and will be in the upcoming “Street Fighter” film.
“Through an intimate and revealing lens, the series portrays a figure who has consistently transformed conflict and adversity into enduring cultural impact,” according to the logline.
The doc will be directed by Mandon Lovett (“Boys in Blue,” “The French Montana Story: For Khadija”) and executive produced by 50 Cent for G-Unit Film & Television, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman for IPC, Lovett and Patrick Altema, who also serves as showrunner.
The yet-to-be-titled project joins Hulu’s robust documentary slate, which includes “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,” “Friends Like These: The Murder of Skylar Neese,” “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,” “Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke,” “Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg?” and “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini.”
50 Cent is represented by IAG, AKR Public Relations and attorney Stephen J. Savva.
