One of the biggest sci-fi franchises will soon bring a recent installment to a different streaming home.
Whether it's Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or James Gunn's recent DC Universe property, Hollywood continues to adapt numerous IPs to the big screen, with various results. Major franchises from the 1980s have also been given their due in cinema.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is having its three-year anniversary today, as it was released in theaters on June 9, 2023, is heading to a new streaming platform. Starting on July 1, the big sci-fi blockbuster will be available to stream for free on Pluto TV in the United States.
Set to be an exclusive free streaming premiere, audience members can get ready for the film's July launch on Pluto TV by revisiting Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which are all currently available on the platform. While the 2023 entry will be arriving there for free, the Transformers franchise did not have its best run that year.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr., Rise of the Beasts grossed only $441.7 million at the worldwide box office. $157.3 million came from the domestic market, while $284.3 million came from international ticket sales, after it was reportedly produced on a budget of between $195 and $ 200 million.
The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts cast features Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz, Tobe Nwigwe as Reek, Dominique Fishback as Elena Wallace, Sarah Stiles as Jillian Robinson, Luna Lauren Vélez as Breanna Diaz, Aidan Devine as Bishop, Michael Kelly as Agent Burke, and Lucas Huarancca as Amaru.
In ScreenRant's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts movie review, Graeme Guttmann commented how "there are a few bright spots in Rise of the Beasts, but these are largely overshadowed by a lot of generic parts that would not be out of place in any of the previous six Transformers movies." But in the end, Knight's film felt like it was repeating what past movies had already done.
Catch Transformers: Rise of the Beasts streaming for free on Pluto TV starting on July 1.
