There are plenty of fantasy TV titles out there, both on network TV and streaming platforms, but not all are worth watching. That's not the case for this often-overlooked series, which remains among the top on AMC+ in both viewership and acquisition. Having premiered on January 8, 2023, the fantasy gem is one of the more compelling entries on modern TV and comprises two seasons so far, with a third season expected this year. In anticipation of the new season, a surprising casting update has made the rounds, hinting at the return of an X-Files favorite.

Set in Anne Rice's Immortal Universe, Mayfair Witches is easily one of the best fantasy series you're not watching. The show, which last aired on March 2, 2025, with the Season 2 finale, was renewed for a third season the following month. An exact premiere date for Season 3 hasn't been unveiled yet, but recent reports reveal that filming has officially wrapped. Even showrunner Esta Spalding marked the joyous milestone with an Instagram post confirming the return of several stars, including most notably Annabeth Gish (The X-Files).

Gish played Deidre Mayfair, mother to Rowan, in Mayfair Witches Season 1, but was absent in Season 2. She's seen in a group photo with Alexandra Daddario, Spalding, Tongayi Chirisa, Alyssa Jirrels, Little Women's Eliza Scanlen, and more. Gish seems to be coming back in Season 3, but Deidre died in Season 1, so fans will have to wait till the gothic series returns to find out how she's returning. Production on the new season began in Vancouver in November 2025 and wrapped in February 2026, and as previously revealed, the season is moving from New Orleans to Salem.

What To Expect When AMC's Gothic Fantasy Hit Returns

Season 3 of Mayfair Witches will dive deeper into the mythology of witchcraft, introduce new spellbound families, and feature some of the historical happenings of Salem, Massachusetts, the infamous town of witch trials and folklore. Additionally, several new stars have been announced for the season's cast, including Breaking Bad's Betsy Brandt, Michiel Huisman, Eliza Scanlen, James Frain, and Better Call Saul alum Omar Maskati, who has joined as a series regular, playing Leo.

In further casting news, Alexandra Daddario returns as Rowan in Mayfair Witches' third season, alongside costars Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, and Alyssa Jirrels as Moira Mayfair. Jack Huston is not among the cast list, implying that his character, Lasher, really did die in the Season 2 finale.

Stay tuned to Collider for the premiere date of Mayfair Witches Season 3.
