2025 Golden Globes Nominations: Miley Cyrus, Meryl Streep and More Snubs and Surprises

The 2025 Golden Globe Awards are slowly but surely raising its curtains.

After all, Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut announced the nominations Dec. 9 with several expected nods for The Bear, Abbott Elementary and Wicked. Emilia Pérez led the pack with 10 nominations, including Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy and Selena Gomez's Best Performance By a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy.

It was a golden year for stars like Hiroyuki Sanada, who earned his first Golden Globes nomination in Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series—Drama for Shogun just months after winning his first Emmys—Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series—for the role. And Cooper Koch proved his weight in gold after picking up his first, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television, for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Meanwhile, The Bear cooked up five nominations, including Best Television Series in a Musical or Comedy, Jeremy Allen White's Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series—Musical or Comedy and Ayo Edebiri's Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series—Musical or Comedy. Only Murders in the Building and Shogun tied with four nominations.

Although it was clear some projects would earn their spot on the list, some were still surprises. For instance, despite Squid Game earning Best Television Series–Drama for season two, the second installment doesn’t drop until Dec. 26.

Following the 2022 Golden Globes, which was not telecasted due to years of controversy and a lack of diversity in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the voting body promised more inclusion moving forward. However, the association was shut down and rebranded as the Golden Globe Foundation in 2023, which seemed to work since the voting body has significantly diversified since tripling in size.

As for when we’ll see who takes home the golden statuette? Tune into the 2025 Golden Globes live from the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream it on Paramount+.

SURPRISE: Miley Cyrus

The "Flowers" singer earned a Best Original Song nomination for "Beautiful That Way," her first nod since 2009 for "I Thought I Lost You" in the same category.

Miley's nomination comes months after she won her first two Grammys nearly 20 years after beginning her music career. Following the win, she questioned the decadeslong wait, asking W Magazine in June, "No shade, but I've been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys?"
