Solo Leveling has become a tour de force in the world of anime. In just two years, it's become one of the most popular series around, and somehow, it looks like it'll only get more popular from here.

Sung Jinwoo, the star of Solo Leveling, is unlike a lot of his fellow shōnen protagonists. He rarely speaks, but when he does, it's usually one of the coldest lines in anime.

Jinwoo, like Solo Leveling itself, is all about action. He lets his fighting skills do the talking for the most part; out of everything he's said, however, there's one quote that perfectly encapsulates both the Shadow Monarch and Solo Leveling at the same time.

Solo Leveling Is a Top-Tier Hit

Solo Leveling feels like nothing we've seen before, and in a genre as oversaturated as shōnen, that's saying something. It's an action-packed thrill ride from the beginning, and it only gets more exciting from there. The first season was solid, but the second season is really where it hit its stride.

Watching Jinwoo go from the weakest Hunter in the entire world to one of the strongest Hunters in Solo Leveling has been nothing short of a masterpiece. Solo Leveling doesn't waste time developing side plots; instead, the entire story is devoted to Jinwoo, his journey as he gets stronger, and the fights he gets into.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Made a Big Story Change Without Us Noticing

Solo Leveling season two has received many big changes regarding the pacing and Sung Jinwoo's character that may make it better than the manhwa.

Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Bleach are all hundreds of episodes long. They're bloated, rife with filler, and at times, straight up boring. The same can't be said about the current generation of shōnen anime. Series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Solo Leveling feel like they put the viewer first, prioritizing solid action sequencing over overtly long arcs.

Solo Leveling only thrives because of Sung Jinwoo. He's the perfect protagonist for the series, as a franchise as straightforward as Solo Leveling needs a protagonist equally straightforward.

Sung Jinwoo Is a Man of Few Words

Sung Jinwoo barely talks. Most shōnen protagonists aren't too chatty, as they're also the type of people who let their actions do the talking. Most of the time, a shōnen protagonist has a friend who will do the talking for them. Goku has Krillin, Luffy has Usopp, and Naruto has Sakura. Jinwoo has his Shadows, and funnily enough, they don't talk either (at least, not yet).

Jinwoo rarely speaks. He doesn't care, and honestly, he doesn't have to. After the second season's finale, there are few characters in the series who can get him to do anything. He's a simple character who has only ever wanted to get stronger to find a cure for his mother's illness. After finding the cure, he's decided to devote his strength to protecting his country, and maybe even the world.

When Jinwoo does talk, it's exciting. Like the series itself, the fact that there is no fat in Jinwoo's vocabulary makes each of his lines more thrilling and captivating. Jinwoo has plenty of great quotes, and fittingly, his best is nothing more than a single word at the end of the first season.

His Best Quote Is a Single Word

Jinwoo has made the word 'Arise' iconic. It can't be said on the internet without thinking of the Shadow Monarch. He first said it at the end of the first season when finishing the Job Change Arc. After becoming the Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo was given the ability to raise the dead, adding their Shadows to his immortal army.

Jinwoo was allowed to choose any word to represent his command and chose 'Arise.' It's a powerful word that fits his character well, and it feels right every time he uses it. While he says it softly the first time, he says it with more power when trying to extract some of the most powerful Shadows in Solo Leveling, like Igris, The Ant King, or Iron.

Shadow Extraction is Jinwoo's strongest ability as the Shadow Monarch. It gives him the power to use a character's Shadow after Jinwoo defeats them in battle, making said character loyal to Jinwoo and immortal so long as Jinwoo has the mana to bring them back.

What's Next for Jinwoo and Solo Leveling?

Season two of Solo Leveling saw Jinwoo become the strongest Hunter in Korea by some margin. An entire team of S-Class Hunters couldn't even touch the Ant King, and Jinwoo made the boss of the S-Rank Gate look like a toy. Not only did Jinwoo dominate the Ant King, he added him to his Shadow Army, creating a Shadow not even S-Rank Hunters could defeat.

The world knows who Jinwoo is now. They might not know exactly what he can do or how he became the strongest in such a short period of time, but it doesn't matter. He's operating on a global stage now, and cuts to China's strongest Hunter show that Jinwoo might not be staying in Korea for much longer.

The third season of Solo Leveling got an official release window recently, placing the release sometime between 2027 and 2028. The second season was exceptional, so it makes sense that the third season won't be coming out for some time. The next few arcs of Solo Leveling are going to be amazing, and Jinwoo's cold composure is going to make them as great as previous arcs.
