In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom

The fantasy and horror genres go together perfectly. From the many works of Stephen King, such as Locke and Key, to the stop-motion genius of Coraline, and Ingmar Bergman's only horror effort, Hour of the Wolf, the blend of the supernatural with the scary has always proved a hit with audiences. However, not all horror fantasy projects are destined to triumph, with some facing plenty of backlash from critics and viewers alike. One such movie is Scott Stewart's Priest, a 2011 fantasy horror starring Paul Bettany of WandaVision fame.

Loosely based on Hyung Min-woo's Korean comic of the same name, Priest stars Bettany as a legendary warrior priest living in a world under the shadow of centuries of conflict between humans and vampires. Living in a guarded city run by the church, the priest's life changes when vampires kidnap his niece and send him on a mission that will break his own sacred vow. Bettany is one of several eye-catching names in Priest, including Emily in Paris star Lily Collins, Billy Butcher himself Karl Urban, Twilight's Cam Gigandet, Bosch: Legacy's Maggie Q, and more.

Directed by Legion's Stewart and written by Cory Goodman, Priest earned just shy of $15 million in its opening domestic weekend, eventually turning over $29 million from U.S. theaters and a further $49 million from overseas markets for a global haul of $78 million. Sadly, due to the film having a $60 million budget, this was an underperformance for Sony Pictures Releasing, just a year before they would smash expectations with the likes of Skyfall and The Amazing Spider-Man.

At the time of its release, Priest was dissected by critics and awarded a disappointing 13% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus on the site reads, "Sleek and stylish, but those qualities are wasted on a dull, derivative blend of sci-fi, action, and horror." At the time of writing, Priest is one of the ten most-streamed movies on free streamer Tubi, a list that also includes the likes of the Samuel L. Jackson-led The Negotiator, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, and the blockbuster disaster flick Armageddon.

Priest is available to stream on Tubi. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming stories.
