It seems as if the world has anointed Timothée Chalamet as the biggest male movie star of his generation, and the one true successor to Leonardo DiCaprio. In doing so, audiences have also seemingly bypassed an entire generation of actors who rose to stardom thanks to superhero franchises. The biggest challenge for an actor on the path to stardom is being able to open a movie on the strength of their presence alone, and so far, Marvel alums have largely struggled on this front. But for a brief moment, Chris Pratt seemed to have broken through. While his latest original offering, the sci-fi mystery film Mercy, underperformed both critically and commercially, it was a different story a decade ago.

That's when Pratt headlined another original sci-fi film, one that defied poor reviews to emerge as a box-office hit. The movie in question witnessed a viewership spike recently, proving that there's still an audience for it out there. Over the past decade, Pratt has found himself at the very pinnacle of the Hollywood pyramid, headlining as many as three major franchises at the same time — Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World, and The Lego Movie. With all three franchises now over for him, Pratt is now focusing on voice roles in The Super Mario Bros. Movie series and The Garfield Movie series. He also stars in Prime Video's hit series The Terminal List.

Here's How Much Chris Pratt's Sci-Fi Movie Grossed at the Box Office

It isn't uncommon for Pratt's films and shows to pop up on streaming charts; on any given day, there will likely be several vying for the audience's attention. For instance, Pratt's 2016 sci-fi film Passengers had a resurgence on the domestic Hulu chart this week, according to FlixPatrol. Directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts, the movie featured Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as deep-space travelers caught in a difficult situation when one of them wakes up years before they were meant to. Doomed to die, he makes the controversial decision to awaken another person, Lawrence's character, without her consent. Passengers grossed more than $300 million worldwide against a reported budget of between $110 million and $150 million, but it received poor reviews. It's now sitting at a 30% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, "Passengers proves Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence work well together — and that even their chemistry isn't enough to overcome a fatally flawed story." Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
