The first of two long-awaited crossover episodes between Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has officially aired, and it was an absolute delight. Although the two sitcoms are vastly different in tone, they actually fit very well together for the episode. There were some hilarious antics as Ava (Janelle James) temporarily appointed Mac (Rob McElhenney) as her Vice Principal, Dee (Kaitlin Olson) tried to break up Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams), to no avail, and Frank (Danny DeVito) became rivals with Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis).

The episode wasn't just a funny filler installment, though. Dee seemed to unintentionally set things in motion for Janine and Gregory to say that they love each other soon, while Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter), and Jacob (Chris Perfetti) helped Charlie (Charlie Kelly) finally learn how to read. After the success of this crossover, one can only hope that other networks and streaming services will follow suit. These are 10 crossover episodes we need to see next after Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

10 'Heartstopper' and 'Geek Girl'

Netflix

Based on the graphic novels by Alice Oseman, Netflix's Heartstopper is no stranger to crossovers--that is, on the page. For years, Oseman has been including clever cameos and references from their novels in Heartstopper's panels. The clear next step for this is a crossover episode, and Netflix actually has another teen dramedy that would make the perfect candidate: the 2024 series based on the novels by Holly Smale, Geek Girl.

Like Heartstopper, Geek Girl is set just outside London. The show follows Harriet Manners (Emily Carey), a neurodivergent teenage girl who suddenly gets the opportunity to become a model. Geek Girl and Heartstopper are both sweet shows that are similar in tone. Harriet and her best friend, Nat (Rochelle Harrington) would fit in very well with Nick (Kit Connor), Charlie (Joe Locke), and all their friends.

9 'Only Murders in the Building' and 'How to Die Alone'

Hulu

Mabel, Charles, and Oliver defending themselves with weapons in Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building. Image via Hulu

With four seasons and counting, Only Murders in the Building is one of Hulu's most delightful and laugh-out-loud-funny comedy series. Over the years, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) have become pretty great at solving murders with their podcast. Although the show is very unique in its premise and style, it would make for a great crossover with another Hulu comedy series, How to Die Alone.

Like Only Murders in the Building, How to Die Alone takes place right in New York City, and it has very sharp humor. The shows are very different in their premises, but they would work well together for a crossover. How to Die Alone focuses on Mel (Natasha Rothwell), a JFK airport employee who makes some serious life changes after a brush with death. It would be very funny to see Mel and the trio meet each other, perhaps at the airport where she works.

8 'Shrinking' and 'Mythic Quest'

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has some seriously fantastic series in both the drama and comedy categories, many of which continue to slide right under the radar. One of its most popular comedies is Shrinking, which has just concluded its second season. In its two seasons so far, Shrinking has shown Jimmy (Jason Segel) moving forward from his wife's (Lilan Bowden) death through using unconventional therapy methods with his patients, and leaning on his found family for help with his daughter (Lukita Maxwell).

Although their premises and humor are a little different, Shrinking would fit very well with another Apple TV+ comedy series, Mythic Quest. They both take place very close to each other, in Pasadena and Los Angeles respectively. There are a number of ways that the characters from these two shows could cross paths, like one of the Mythic Quest employees potentially starting therapy with Jimmy, Paul (Harrison Ford), or Gaby (Jessica Williams).

From the creatives behind It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia comes Mythic Quest, a comedy-drama series that stars Rob McElhenney and Charlotte Nicdao in the title roles. Set in a fictional game development studio for a game called Mythic Quest, the cast navigates the challenges of trying to keep a massively multiplayer online game running and profitable. At the same time, egos and personalities clash in the workplace, as creative directors, engineers, HR, writers, and monetization teams are forced to scale their ambitions appropriately for the sake of the project.

7 'Based on a True Story' and 'Laid'

Peacock

Peacock has a number of creative and outrageously funny comedy shows that do not get nearly enough attention. Two of these are Based on a True Story and Laid, which are very different in their premises but surprisingly similar in their senses of humor. Based on a True Story follows a married couple (Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina) who, after getting demoted in their careers, blackmail a serial killer (Tom Bateman) into making a podcast with them.

Unlike Based on a True Story, Laid has a supernatural element to it: Ruby (Stephanie Hsu), a selfish woman who's been unsuccessful with dating, discovers that all of her ex-lovers are dying in the order that she slept with them. In spite of the speculative piece of Laid, these two shows would fit very well together due to their shared dark humor, self-centered main characters, and satire about true crime fanatics.

6 'XO, Kitty' and 'Emily in Paris'

Netflix

'XO, Kitty' Season 2, Anna Cathcart taking a selfie with her friends. Image Via Netflix

Although they are at very different stages in their life, Emily in Paris' Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) and XO, Kitty's Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) are two characters who are on surprisingly similar paths. They both left their lives behind in their American cities (Chicago and Portland) to live in other countries (France and Korea). They are both caught in the middle of complicated love triangles as well, and their love lives play a large role in the plots of their shows.

Emily would be a fantastic mentor for Kitty, and it would be really fun to see them interact in a crossover. It's not impossible to imagine Emily's job taking her to Seoul for a little while in Season 5, where she could meet Kitty and give her some advice. Emily in Paris and XO Kitty are both romantic comedy shows with leading ladies who are pursuing their dreams and finding love along the way, and they would fit well together for a crossover episode.

5 '9-1-1' and 'The Rookie'

ABC

Buck, Chimney, and Eddie on the job together in 9-1-1 Season 8. Image via ABC

9-1-1 and The Rookie have been long overdue for a crossover episode, particularly since 9-1-1 shifted networks from FOX to ABC at the start of 2024. Both shows take place in Los Angeles, and it would make sense for the Mid-Wilshire division to run into Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) at some point. There are a number of potential storylines that could come out of this crossover, particularly now that The Rookie has a firefighter, Bailey (Jenna Dewan), among its main cast.

A crossover between 9-1-1 and The Rookie could have some fantastic pair-ups between each show's respective characters. It would be a lot of fun to see Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) cross paths with Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy (Melissa O'Neil). The Rookie's funniest side character, Smitty (Brent Huff), would pair well with any one of 9-1-1's characters, and Bobby (Peter Krause) would likely have a hilarious reaction to him. Both shows have already had crossovers with two of ABC's reality competition shows, so it's time that their characters meet.

4 'A Man on the Inside' and 'Nobody Wants This'

Netflix

Charles Nieuwendyk and his daughter Emily smiling and looking at something in A Man on the Inside. Image via Netflix

Two of Netflix's best 2024 comedies, A Man on the Inside and Nobody Wants This, would make for a truly delightful and funny crossover episode. The shows have pretty different premises, but they both have a great combination of humor and heart, and they've both already been renewed for another season. Nobody Wants This takes place in Los Angeles while A Man on the Inside takes place all the way in San Francisco, but Charles' (Ted Danson) investigative work could easily take him to L.A. in Season 2.

Because Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Morgan's (Justine Lupe) sex and dating podcast is relatively successful, they could end up traveling to other places next season, including San Francisco. It would be a lot of fun to see the characters from these two shows interact, and there are a number of possibilities for a potential crossover, like Noah potentially (Adam Brody) doing volunteer work at Pacific View.

3 'Doctor Odyssey' and 'Grey's Anatomy'

ABC

Sean Teale, Philippa Soo, Joshua Jackson in uniform look off camera and smile in Doctor Odyssey Episode 7. Image via ABC

ABC's oldest and newest medical dramas, Grey's Anatomy and Doctor Odyssey, would be absolutely perfect together for a crossover episode. Doctor Odyssey's medical team seems to be much safer than Grey's Anatomy's, but both shows have a similar combination of unique medical cases and soapy romantic drama. It's entirely plausible that the doctors from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital would be called to The Odyssey to assist with a medical emergency.

There's also potential for a crossover episode where any of Grey's Anatomy's doctors go away for a cruise, only to end up having to assist Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), and Tristan (Sean Teale) during an unexpected medical crisis. These shows both air on ABC on Thursday nights, and it would make a lot of sense for the two to take advantage of that.

2 'High Potential' and '9-1-1'

ABC

Morgan Gillory and Adam Karadec standing together in High Potential Episode 6. Image via ABC

While a crossover between 9-1-1 and The Rookie would certainly be entertaining, it is even more crucial that 9-1-1 does a crossover with another Los Angeles-based ABC procedural first: the 2024 series, High Potential. Based on the French-Belgian series, HPI, High Potential follows Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), a night cleaner turned consultant for the LAPD Major Crimes division.

High Potential and 9-1-1 could easily have a crossover episode where Morgan and Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) pair up with Athena (Angela Bassett) to solve a case together. There's also a lot of comedic potential in the possibility of Morgan and Buck (Oliver Stark) meeting and trying to one-up each other with their knowledge of obscure facts. These two shows both bring a balance of comedy to even their most intense episodes, and would make for a great crossover together.

1 'And Just Like That' and 'The White Lotus'

HBO

Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and Sarah Jessica Parker sit at a picnic table in And Just Like That. Image via Max

This one is certainly a little out of the box, but the thought of the Sex and the City women checking into a White Lotus hotel and getting involved in a murder mystery is too good to pass up. And Just Like That takes place in New York City and is a realistic comedy series that follows Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) decades after the end of the original show.

Although And Just Like That is more grounded than The White Lotus, these two shows would make for a really fun crossover. It's easy to imagine Carrie finding a way to somehow make the latest murder about herself and her love life, while Miranda expresses concerns about the more serious issues involved, and Charlotte tries to see the bright side. After Samantha (Kim Cattrall) made a brief appearance in And Just Like That last season, it's fun to imagine how Samantha would be living life to the fullest at the White Lotus.
