The Sims 4 has a free-form list of challenges and completely customizable lifestyles, but sometimes the standard process of making enemies and locking them in the basement isn't as fun as it could potentially be after many hours of gameplay. With the continued release of new and exciting packs and updates, players across the internet have created in-depth challenges that are based on multiple generations of playable characters, aptly named legacy challenges, some of which even span across other franchises.

While these challenges are littered across social media and most Simmers have indulged once or twice, there is an endless supply of different ways to spice up gameplay or careers in The Sims 4 that were previously ignored. From veterinarians and homesteading to vampire founders, some of the less advertised legacy challenges have plenty to offer.

10 The Legacy Challenge (Taylor's Version)

Surprisingly, This Challenge Is Full Of Variety

At times, it seems like the Venn Diagram of people who love The Sims 4 and people who love Taylor Swift is a circle. Popular challenge maker Anxiousmoodlet created The Legacy Challenge (Taylor's Version) to explore each of Taylor Swift's albums as generations and the aesthetics behind them. This challenge extends through eleven generations and across all the neighborhoods within the game. Vampires, Spellcrafters, and actresses are the focal points of this challenge, giving players a chance to live in "haunted" castles in The Sims 4 and live out their wildest dreams.

Sims 4 players wishing to celebrate Taylor Swift's Eras Tour or recent release of the album Speak Now TV within the game need look no further.

Each generation's alignment with the albums creates interesting goals, such as completing the feather collection in the 1989 generation. This isn't the only unique facet of this Taylor Swift-based legacy challenge, as the housing suggestions for each generation include a converted church, a 1920s-style cottage, and even a Christmas tree farm. Players looking for a reason to begin again can look for Anxiousmoodlet for inspiration.

9 I'm Not My Parents!

This Challenge Focuses On The Stories Of Different Generations

This story-drive legacy challenge doesn't rely on single lots and good family relationships like the classic challenges but instead relies heavily on each generation forging its distinct path. Created by SimfinityPlays, this legacy challenge has versions available for console and base-game-only players, making it accessible for any player who gets bored easily or is just looking for something new to try out in their games. While this does not include any occult options, adjustments could easily be made.

This story-drive legacy challenge doesn't rely on single lots and good family relationships like the classic challenges but instead relies heavily on each generation forging its distinct path.

A unique aspect of this challenge is that it relies on each generation beginning with a teenage character, so grades become a useful means of shifting the story to fit each generation of The Sims 4. Simfinity does an excellent job at laying out the guidelines for this challenge without pushing players into a specific type of story.

8 Legacy of Hearts

Players Who Love Romance Will Find A New Home In This Challenge

Inspired by the Lovestruck expansion pack, the Legacy of Hearts challenge explores different generations of heartbreak, affairs, and close bonds. SimplySimulated and KimbaSprite are back together with this challenge that focuses more on the relationships that your characters are in rather than where they are in the world. Although there are many base-game compatible challenges, this one specifically requires the Lovestruck pack to function.

From soulmates to divorce, this is a great challenge for players who want to explore different kinds of relationships, especially if there are any mods they're itching to use. Portions of this challenge include the use of heirlooms and a journal passed down throughout the generations to give it a unique flair for storytelling. For players who are more involved with the romance features of The Sims 4, Legacy of Hearts is a great match.

7 Star Sign Legacy

Zodiac Signs Play A Big Role In This Challenge

The Star Sign Legacy Challenge by ginovasims is a bit longer than the standard legacy challenge sitting at 12 generations, so players looking for a longer commitment may be interested in choosing one like this. This challenge focuses largely on astrology and using the twelve zodiac signs to create various generations that work together to create a more cohesive storyline. Ginovasims has fully fleshed out the feelings alongside each generation giving it an incredible pace and use of characterization for each sign into player's characters.

Sims 4's Roadmap May Be Teasing A Game-Changing New Feature

Sims 4's newest roadmap was just released, and with it comes lots of speculation for features being teased to release further down the line.

This challenge incorporates themes for each generation rather than specific colors, putting special emphasis on the type of sign and the standard ideas around their perception. The creator also included a set of optional challenges for each generation that include children's name themes, mastering side aspirations, and even hosting parties in The Sims 4.

6 Forgotten Realms Legacy

This Challenge Is Inspired By Dungeons And Dragons

This Dungeons and Dragons-inspired legacy challenge is also by Anxiousmoodlet, giving them yet another credit for their themed challenges. Forgotten Realms Legacy uses the classes from Dungeons and Dragons to create each generation's guidelines and story. However, it is completely up to the player to decide how they want to play their game, much like in D&D itself. The challenge encourages the use of mods, custom content, the occults to expand the storytelling, and also the use of rolling for traits and heirs.

Every traditional class from D&D is included, from bards to fighters, and each class has a distinct challenge for generations that are in play. The options within this legacy challenge are unique, as this is one of the few Dungeons and Dragons-inspired challenges in The Sims 4 that is complete and ready for players to dive into.

5 The Pokémon Legacy

Nintendo's Classic Franchise Heavily Influences This Challenge

This short six-generation legacy challenge by Simmancy is a perfect combination of Pokémon and The Sims 4. The Pokémon Legacy challenge is completely up to the character to make up their team of six different types, including a standard Water-, Fire-, and Grass-type founder character. For players looking for a more intricate experience, the creator recommends trying double-typing and combining the generations or even a Nuzlocke-style mode based on using a randomizer to pick types.

A neat aspect of this challenge is the emphasis on collections, for obvious reasons. While it does not rely on an egg system like the Nintendo games it is inspired by, the choice of the next generation's type is completely up to the player's preference, unlike some that encourage players to follow a specific line of progression throughout a challenge.

4 A Different Kind of Jam

Food Is At The Forefront Of This Challenge

the sims 4 jam

This legacy challenge from Nadzicle puts an autumnal spin on the standard berry-style challenges and presents a cuter version based on different kinds of jams and preserves. Following a fruit theme, this 10-generation encourages players to become masters of death and every skill imaginable, even if they do not decide to complete everything in the game. This is a rather unique challenge, as one of the aspirations to complete the challenge is the hidden "grilled cheese" aspiration that is only unlocked after eating three grilled cheeses in a row.

The story-based portion of this legacy challenge isn't as large of a part of the progression as some other challenges in The Sims 4, but the tie-ins for each generational jam directly influence the heir of the generation. If players have the Country Living expansion pack, it might be a fun addition to create the preserves and jams whilst playing the generation.

3 Sims In Bloom

Botanical Lovers Will Love This Challenge

A floral explosion, the Sims in Bloom challenge by a-sims-garden is one that I have been playing for some time now. As a 10-generation challenge, this playthrough requires a majority of the packs to play completely but it does have a base game-only version available for players who do not own all the packs. While there are color options provided, the creator states that they're more of a design inspiration than anything meant to be worked into genetics.

The Sims in Bloom challenge also has a clause in the rules that allows you to start each new generation in a home of their own with a bit of money to start with, parting from that standard idea of the legacy home. A floral version of the legacy challenges is a great choice for any botanical lovers who want a garden of heirlooms.

2 A Literary Twist

Classic Novels Inspire This Challenge

A Literary Twist Source: Serindipity

A neat literature-themed challenge by Serindipitysims, this 10-generation challenge follows different novels and, as the hero of each one, it's up to the player to decide what to prioritize in each generation. Lots of classic novels are featured in A Literary Twist, from The Wizard of Oz to Hunger Games, allowing players to pick and choose the order they attempt each novel's challenge. This challenge uses aliens, vampires, and other occult options, so players should be aware of any requirements needed and be sure to meet them if they wish to play this challenge.

The Sims 4 has had content added to it over the span of a decade, and that’s left plenty of features hidden in the game that players might not find.

This legacy challenge uses some of the "berry" method tie-ins such as a specific color for each generation outside the first one. This is a completely optional choice, allowing players to choose whether to include colors or not. Serindipitysims opens up this challenge to spin a literary tale of your creation in The Sims 4.

1 Seven Deadly Sins

The Challenge Explores The Flaws Of Being Human

This final challenge that everyone should be playing is Simvanie's Seven Deadly Sins legacy challenge. Based specifically on Roman Catholic theology, this challenge looks at the flaws of Sims rather than creating a picture-perfect family tree. The storytelling in the rules and guide for the challenge is art itself, as it even makes special note that any heirs should expressly not have the "angelic" toddler trait in The Sims 4. This shorter legacy challenge only has seven generations but can be pushed to 10 if players decide to carry out some of the optional generations.

This legacy challenge is a creative endeavor that looks at the more devious sides of what characters can be like.

This legacy challenge is a creative endeavor that looks at the more devious sides of what characters can be like. Allowing players to look through different roles of the villains in different storylines and how to create characters that form the opposite views. This is a challenge everyone should attempt at least once while playing The Sims 4.
