Rey's No Kenobi, But This Popular Star Wars Theory Means Obi-Wan's Family Line May Not Be Over

2 hours ago 3

This is no doubt part of the reason the theory that Rey was a Kenobi became so popular. In fact, many continue to discuss whether this would have been a better path for the sequel trilogy given how poorly received Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Palpatine plot twist proved to be. While the door is sadly closed on the possibility that Rey is a Kenobi, there is another Star Wars character who could still be revealed as Obi-Wan Kenobi's descendant.

Many Star Wars Fans Wanted Rey To Be A Kenobi

Episode VII - The Force Awakens

When Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduced Rey as a mysterious and very powerful Force-user whose parents were unknown, theories began flying. Many believed Rey to be Luke Skywalker's daughter—perhaps canonizing Mara Jade—and others thought she could be a cast-off Solo child, with yet another connection to Star Wars Legends, as Han Solo and Leia Organa had three children in Legends. One theory, arguably even more popular than these, was that Rey was really a Kenobi.

Although this may seem contrary to Obi-Wan's character, given he seemed wholly committed to the Jedi way and was so against Anakin Skywalker's feelings for Padmé, Star Wars: The Clone Wars revealed precisely how Rey could be Obi-Wan's granddaughter. In The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan's romantic feelings for Satine Kryze were revealed. Shockingly, Obi-Wan even told Satine that, had she asked, he would have left the Jedi Order for her.

This romantic link to Satine Kryze coupled with Rey hearing Obi-Wan's voice in The Force Awakens had many viewers convinced Rey was a Kenobi.

Had the two had a child, perhaps even one Obi-Wan didn't know about, it also would have made sense for that child to be kept secret. With Obi-Wan being a Jedi and Satine being the Duchess of Mandalore, it would have been a scandal, to say the least, for the two of them to have publicly had a child. This romantic link to Satine Kryze coupled with Rey hearing Obi-Wan's voice in The Force Awakens had many viewers convinced Rey was a Kenobi. Although that ended up not being true, there is another possibility.

These 10 Star Wars sequel trilogy theories may have been controversial, but I believe the movies would have been so much better if they had been true.

Could Satine's "Nephew" Korkie Kryze Actually Be Obi-Wan's Son?

Korkie Kryze Seems Much More Likely To Be A Kenobi Than Even Rey Did

 Satine, Bo-Katan, and Korkie.

Korkie Kryze, introduced in The Clone Wars, is the single most likely character to be a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the show, Satine refers to Korkie as her nephew, but that has never made sense. The only sibling Satine seems to have is Bo-Katan Kryze, and Korkie is not her son. Satine also isn't married, which means Korkie couldn't be her nephew through marriage. While it's possible Satine is calling Korkie her nephew in a way that shows a bond between them but isn't a blood relation, the likelihood of that seems quite low.

Satine refers to Korkie as her nephew, but that has never made sense.

There was also a striking resemblance between Korkie and Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars. In fact, Korkie looks like a perfect blend of Satine and Obi-Wan, which can't have been coincidental. While some have argued this reflects poorly on Obi-Wan, who almost certainly would not have abandoned and ignored a child he had, it seems probable Satine wouldn't have told Obi-Wan. That in turn may reflect poorly on Satine, but she undoubtedly would have done this out of love for Obi-Wan.

Satine and Obi-Wan clearly had a mutual love for one another, so it's safe to assume Satine knew, before Obi-Wan even told her, that he would have left the Order for her. Satine likely did not want to pull Obi-Wan away from his life as a Jedi—a life he clearly loved. Having a child would have forced Obi-Wan out of the Order, so it's entirely possible Satine made a tough call without Obi-Wan knowing. Calling Korkie her nephew and treating him as such would also have kept a familial relationship between Satine and Korkie without exposing the truth.

Star Wars Could Still Confirm This Connection

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be Star Wars' first movie in more than 5 years, which would be the perfect opportunity to drop a bombshell such as this one. While it would still mean Rey isn't a Kenobi, it would satisfy those who wanted that theory to be true by revealing that Obi-Wan did in fact have descendants. This would in turn keep Obi-Wan's legacy alive in Star Wars in a wonderful way.

This would also leave story possibilities wide open. It's unclear what happened to Korkie, but as Bo-Katan's nephew, it would certainly make sense for him to make an appearance, assuming he is still alive in this era. This could mean that Star Wars is well on its way to finally confirming this very popular fan theory that Korkie Kryze is actually Obi-Wan Kenobi's son.
