10 Best Deku Fights In My Hero Academia That Truly Proves He's The Series' Greatest Hero

2 weeks ago 6

Deku is an exciting character and one of the most powerful in My Hero Academia. He inherited one of the strongest quirks in My Hero Academia's world when he got One For All. Since obtaining great power, Deku has had to bear a mountain of responsibility. He's taking on the Symbol of Peace's mantle and has to fight new battles to secure his spot. Midoriya has gotten much stronger as the series has progressed, but his enemies have gotten stronger too.

Whether he's fighting Shigaraki, Muscular, or even Bakugo, each of his opponents goes all out when they fight. Nobody takes it easy on the ninth wielder of One For All, giving Deku some of the best fights in My Hero Academia. Each of Deku's fights holds significance in the series as a whole and for his own character development, as he grows into the hero he's always wanted to be.

10 Deku vs. Nighteye

Deku Didn't Step on a Single All Might Poster

Deku vs. Nighteye isn't a traditional fight in that they don't try to incapacitate each other. Instead, Nighteye wanted to test Deku and see if he was really worthy of being One For All's successor. Nighteye's quirk allows him to see into the future of anyone he touches. He touches Deku and tells him that if he can take a stamp from his hand within three minutes, he'll allow Deku to study under him. Even though Deku puts in all of his effort, he isn't able to steal the stamp.

Sir Nighteye notices that Deku didn't touch a single piece of the All Might memorabilia he has up on his walls. Deku doesn't even flinch when he mentions it, acting like it's obvious that he would never ruin such an exquisite piece of art. Nighteye is interested in Deku's response and approves his request, allowing Midoriya to study under his tutelage.

9 vs. Class 1-A

It Took All of Deku's Friends To Bring Him Back

The Dark Hero Arc was the bleakest in all of My Hero. It showed the heroes at their lowest morally, suffering a series of defeats with no end in sight. Midoriya had decided to step away from school. He knows he's the villain's main target, and he can't bring himself to put his friends in danger on his behalf. He sends each of his classmates a letter apologizing for his actions and letting them know that he's the ninth successor to One For All.

My Hero Academia Deku Cosplay Brings The Hero's Darkest Phase To Life With Impressive Results

My Hero Academia's Deku is a character who has been put through the wringer, with his dark turn as a solo hero receiving an impressive cosplay design.

Class 1-A then tracks Midoriya down and forces him to come back home. In one of the most emotional moments in the series, each of his classmates does their part to try and slow him down and explain to Deku that they want to bear his burdens with him. His withered body could barely fight them off. He eventually relents, returns to a raucous school, and relies on his friends once again. Deku is generally a very positive hero who has a great relationship with his friends, making his fight with Class 1A all the more emotionally charged.

8 Deku and Bakugo vs. All Might

They Could Barely Squeeza Past All Might, Even Working Together

Bakugo's anger made him a frustrating character for most of My Hero Academia. He's strong, competent in battle, and forward-thinking, so it was always very small of Bakugo to continually Bully Deku. When they had to team up together, he was forced to find a way to work together with his rival. Bakugo and Deku were paired against All Might for the Final Exam Arc, the strongest opponent they could go up against.

While Bakugo initially tried to pass the exam on his own, he eventually helped Deku. He tried to let Deku win all by himself, but that's not how Midoriya operates. After Bakugo was already passed out and Deku could've just left him, he went back for him. He hit All Might with a powerful Full Cowl, picked up Bakugo's unconscious body, and passed the exam. Deku and Bakugo's history alongside their character development is key to what made their fight with All Might so fascinating.

7 Deku vs. Bakugo

Deku's Eternal Rival Puts up a Good Fight

Deku's second fight against Bakugo was another emotional high point for the series. At this point in the story, Bakugo has just found out that Deku is All Might's successor and it's making him furious. He can't understand why his idol and the number one hero would pick someone so powerless to succeed them. He draws Deku out of their common area and decides to fight him one-on-one. Deku takes him seriously and decides to try his new Shoot Style against his rival.

"Never Lose To the Darkness": My Hero Academia's Best Character Twist Was Set From the Start

Kohei Horikoshi, the author of My Hero Academia, has revealed that the popular character Bakugo was never meant to be a villain.

The battle is fairly even, with Deku's abilities matching Bakugos. Bakugo is barely able to come out on top when All Might comes to break up the fight. Bakugo then admits he's been feeling guilty for making All Might lose his power, and All Might reassures the young man by telling him it wasn't his fault at all.

6 vs. Shigaraki (First Fight)

Deku Almost Loses Control

The fight against Gigantomachia and Shigaraki was one of the first in My Hero Academia where the heroes suffered considerable losses. Deku got to the battle late and was forced to see many of his friends severely injured. None got hurt more than Bakugo who saved Deku by throwing himself between Midoriya and one of Shigaraki's attacks. When Bakugo got hurt, Deku flew into a rage. He used his Blackwhip and Smokescreen quirks to assault Shigaraki and land some powerful blows.

When more red and black rods were sent Deku's way, he didn't care. He broke them with his teeth, trying to get to Shigaraki as quickly as possible. While they didn't end up winning the fight, seeing Deku let loose and let his anger fight for him was very entertaining and a great way to show how much he cared about his friend.

5 Deku, Todoroki, and Ida vs. Stain

One of the Earliest Fights in the Series

Hero Killer Stain presented a great opportunity for Shoto, Ida, and Deku to team up together. The fight started poorly, with Ida ambushing Stain to avenge his brother's career as a hero. Ida quickly falls to Stain, and right before he's killed, Deku punches Stain in the face and saves Ida's life. It isn't over though, as Stain then immobilizes Deku with his quirk as and returns to kill Ida and Pro Hero Native. For the third time, Stain is interrupted, this time by Shoto.

My Hero Academia's Best Character Is an Underrated Villain, & Here Is Why

One villain is My Hero Academia's true best character due to his complexity, redemption, positive personality, and desires.

The three young heroes do their part fighting against one of the most deranged villains in the series. It takes a combination attack from Shoto, Ida, and Deku together to eventually incapacitate Stain. Even after the battle is over, Stain's aura is still intimidating enough to send shivers down the spines of all the heroes who come as backup.

4 vs. Todoroki

Midoriya Drew Shoto's Power Out of Him

Deku vs. Shoto Todoroki was one of the best fights early in My Hero. It set the stage for what the show could be. U.A. Sports Festival's Fighting Tournament featured these two powerhouses early in the second round. It was a decent fight at first, but Midoriya could tell Shoto was holding back. He solely used his ice powers, only 50% of his total ability. Shoto hated his father at this point in the series and hadn't yet used his fire quirk. Deku brought it out of him.

Shoto Todoroki, one of Class 1-A's most experienced and talented heroes, appears in an amazingly detailed My Hero Academia cosplay.

Once Shoto used both of his halves, the fight changed. Deku was already incredibly injured and decided to throw caution to the win when he flung himself right at Shoto. In one of the best animated sequences in My Hero, Shoto uses both his fire and ice quirks at the same time to launch a devastating attack at Deku, winning the fight and moving onto the next round.

3 vs. Muscular

Deku Will Do Anything to Protect Kota

Deku shouldn't have stood a chance against Muscular. Muscular was a legitimate villain with one of the best quirks in My Hero. He's also the monster that killed Kota's parents and has no problem killing their child too. Muscular dominates Midoriya for most of their fight and treats Deku more like a toy than an opponent. Unfortunately for Muscular, Deku's One For All quirk means he's never completely out of a fight.

Deku uses a combination of his Smash attacks to break Muscular's guard. Once the villain is at his weakest, Deku unleashes his brand new 1,000,000 Delaware Detroit Smash to obliterate Muscle's muscle fibers and send him straight into the cliff's face. Kota is saved and Muscular is knocked out, later arrested by the police force, and putting a fitting end to an excellent fight.

2 vs. Shigaraki (Second Fight)

Deku Returns With Stellar Hand-To-Hand Combat

Deku was fed up with Shigaraki by the time he arrived at the Coffin in the Sky. When he finally arrived to his intended battlefield, he was greeted with a horrific sight. Almost all the heroes who were there to support him were incapacitated. Mirko was in pieces, Best Jeanist was barely hanging on, and worst of all, Bakugo was at death's door. Midoriya lost it. He flew into a rage that was only controlled by Lemillion who helped him focus on his real goal.

He calmed down and leveled Shigaraki. He was able to combine two of his quirks, Gearshift and Fa Jin, to create a powerful new move called Gearshift: Overdrive. Midoriya delivered a series of intense blows directly to Shigaraki's midsection, knocking the villain into the air. Deku then flew behind him, using an unreal 120% Detroit Smash quintuple.

1 vs. Overhaul

Midoriya Fighting Without Limits

Deku vs. Overhaul, also known as Chisaki, is easily the greatest Deku fight in all My Hero Academia and one of the best fights in My Hero Academia history. While Deku has one of the most powerful quirks of all time in One For All, he can only use a fraction of it without destroying his body. When he finds Eri, everything changes. Her quirk gives her the ability to rewind time, essentially allowing her to continually rewind Deku's body to the moment before he throws an incredibly powerful punch.

Deku's able to go all-out in his fight against Overhaul. He flies through the air, radiating One For All's power. Overhaul doesn't stand a chance against Deku as he fights him with every ounce of power his quirk will let him. Deku defeats the villain in one of the best, flashiest, and most jaw-dropping fights of the series.
