Ana Dumaraog is a Writer and Editor at Screen Rant, where she expertly covers Network TV offerings, among other things

She has spearheaded the effort to make the site an authority on broadcast shows, initially starting with The Big Bang Theory franchise, NCIS, and One Chicago before taking on the specialization in general.

Ana has also covered a wide-spread of topics in the past — from franchises like, the MCU and Star Wars, to classic TV favorites, such as Frasier and MASH.

Ana brings clarity and enthusiasm to every story she tackles—whether reporting on new releases or offering deep dives into fan-favorite franchises. Her coverage translates complex entertainment developments into engaging, audience-focused content.

Sheldon and the Coopers are bringing back Young Sheldon — sort of.

Two years before The Big Bang Theory ended, CBS recognized that the sitcom's popularity could pave the way for a franchise. Teaming up with Jim Parsons, Young Sheldon was born in 2017, tackling the socially inept genius' childhood in Texas with the rest of the Coopers. The prequel quickly became a major hit, pulling in huge numbers for the network and expanding the Big Bang Theory universe beyond the flagship show. When its parent series went off the air in 2019, the series kept the franchise going until it ended its seven-season run in 2024.

It's no secret that Young Sheldon's cancelation wasn't rooted in the lack of interest from the public. By the time it ended, it was still TV's number 1 comedy, even posting show-high ratings during its final year. Normally, that would have been enough motivation for a renewal. However, because of the established The Big Bang Theory canon, Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Steven Holland decided to wrap the show with Sheldon's move to California for his post-graduate studies.

Two years later, Young Sheldon is officially coming back with a new expansion project this fall via Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy. Written by Jessica Radloff, the same author behind the oral history of The Big Bang Theory book, the new release promises "major revelations about the show, exclusive behind-the-scenes stories from every cast member, and all the heart that made the show beloved." Its foreword is written by Parsons, who functioned as the narrator of the prequel, as well as its executive producer. The Young Sheldon book is slated to release on October 20, 2026.

The Young Sheldon finale was defined by two major events — both previously established in The Big Bang Theory. Firstly, the unexpected death of George Cooper, and secondly, Sheldon's move to California to begin his post-graduate studies at Caltech. This made the send-off for the Coopers bittersweet, as opposed to the feel-good ending of The Big Bang Theory. The series was so beloved that there were calls for it to continue, even if it meant breaking the franchise's continuity beyond repair.

Unfortunately, despite the clamor from its legion of fans, Young Sheldon stuck to canon and wrapped. It's curious how they ended up with the decision, considering the temptation to just prioritize the show's storytelling. Hopefully, Radloff's book features a section that discusses this. The good news is that CBS and Lorre eventually found a way to continue its story via Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. While still not as popular as The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, Montana Jordan and Emily Osment's comedy has officially taken over the #1 spot, continuing a franchise tradition.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Shockingly Solves A 9-Year Old Young Sheldon Mystery

After nearly a decade, one mystery from Young Sheldon's earliest episodes is finally resolved by a new reveal in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

If Radloff's new Young Sheldon book is as in-depth as her The Big Bang Theory release, fans can expect to learn a lot about what went into the hit family show. Perhaps it can also offer clues whether Iain Armitage's Sheldon is finally debuting in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 3. Beyond that, it will be exciting to learn what the cast really think about certain creative decisions in the show that affected their characters.

All seasons of Young Sheldon can be streamed on Netflix and HBO Max.
