XRP (XRP) Price: ETF Inflows Hit $153 Million In August

1 hour ago 13

TLDR

  • XRP rose from near $1 to almost $1.70 in August, its best month since 2021.
  • US spot XRP ETFs took in $153.55 million in August, mostly in the back half of the month.
  • CFTC data shows a 115.7 million-token net short position building against XRP.
  • Analyst Ali Martinez says XRP’s confirmed breakout points to a $1.70 target next.
  • History shows XRP’s September has moved opposite its August in seven of the last eight years.

XRP traded near $1.3653 as of August 31, 2026. The token gained as much as 70% during August, moving from close to $1 to almost $1.70 within four days.

That stretch made August the best month for XRP since 2021. It marked only the third time in nine years the month finished positive.

Most of the gain came in the final two weeks of the month. Data from SoSoValue shows the timing lined up closely with ETF demand.

US spot XRP ETFs took in $153.55 million for the full month. Just $3.27 million of that arrived between August 3 and 14.

The remaining $150.28 million came in the back half of August. That is roughly 46 times the earlier inflow amount.

The week ending August 28 alone brought in $110.49 million. That was the strongest single week for XRP ETFs so far in 2026.

Cumulative ETF inflows since launch have reached about $1.66 billion. Total net assets across these funds sit near $1.44 billion.

Bitwise’s XRP ETF leads with more than $600 million in cumulative inflows. Franklin’s XRPZ fund has also grown since it launched.

Wallet Data Shows Buyers Changing Hands

Wallet tracking known as HODL Waves sorts coins by how long they have been held. This data shows a shift in who owns XRP during the rally.

Wallets holding XRP for three to six months saw their share of supply drop from 6.41% on August 8 to 5.76% by month’s end. That points to this group selling into the price rise.

At the same time, wallets holding for one week to one month nearly doubled their share of supply. That figure moved from 1.68% on July 31 to 3.22% currently.

This lines up with the heaviest buying volume around the August 21 price peak. Newer buyers appear to have picked up coins that longer-term holders sold off.

Analyst Targets And Short Positioning

Crypto chart analyst Ali Martinez posted on X that XRP has confirmed a breakout above a falling trendline. He set a next target of $1.70 for the token.

Martinez said the first hurdle sits near $1.50. Clearing that level would support a move toward the $1.70 target he named.

He added that a close above $1.70 with strong buying could open the door to $2.09 and then $2.35. Martinez also said a drop below $1.37 could send XRP back toward $1.20.

Separately, CFTC Commitments of Traders data showed a net short position of 115.7 million XRP tokens building against the asset. Bitcoinist described this as a positioning story rather than a price forecast.

A large short position does not guarantee a rally. But it can add fuel to a price increase if short sellers need to buy back exposure to manage risk.

History adds another factor for September. In seven of the last eight years, XRP’s September result has moved in the opposite direction of its August result.

In the two years August finished higher, September finished lower both times, down 14% in 2020 and 19.6% in 2021.

Two separate events fall on September 15. The Federal Reserve holds a meeting with fresh economic projections, and the US Senate is set for a cloture vote on the CLARITY Act, a digital asset bill.

XRP is currently trading below its 200-period exponential moving average of $1.56. The $1.34 to $1.36 range is the level traders are watching most closely heading into next month.
