The series saw Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Rogue and more reckon with Magneto taking over the team, the 'Extinction-Day' attack on Genosha and the scheming of Mister Sinister and Bastion. X-Men '97: Season Two Comic Will Link the First and Second Seasons
Marvel just announced X-Men '97: Season Two - a prelude comic that will bridge the first and second television seasons. Given the comic's launch date of June and its five-issue run, fans have already begun speculating that the show is on track to return between June and September.
However, before then, fans will find out what happened to the X-Men left behind in the present when Jean, Cyclops, Beast and the rest ended up on their "time-sprawling saga."

The new comic will follow the heroes still left in the present, with Bishop, Forge, Jubilee and Sunspot remaining on Earth as the de facto remaining X-Men of the present. The series will also seemingly depict the early moment of Cyclops and Jean living in the future, while Rogue et al try to survive Ancient Egypt.
Yes, The New Comic Series Is 100% Canon
Image via Disney+Speaking to Marvel, writer Steve Foxe confirmed the comic was written in partnership with the show's writing staff, stating, "We got to work closely with the series team to make sure this comic is a vital, additive experience for our mutants - what’s left of the X-Men, anyway…"
This isn't the first tie-in to the show. 2024's X-Men '97 acted as a prequel to the animated show's return, seeing the team clash with Mister Sinister's Marauders, and foreshadowing his plans to deploy the Madelyne Pryor clone against the team.
One of the most exciting aspects of this new prequel will be seeing the mutants left behind on Earth continue on as the vastly reduced X-Men, especially if it gives the recently introduced Roberto Da Costa some space to grow.
X-Men '97: Season Two officially launches June 3 with a comic prelude bridging the TV series, with the television season 2 sure to follow soon after.
