Workaholic Martha Stewart blasts 'thick skulled' people seeking work-life balance as she declares 'there's no such thing'

3 days ago 45

Martha Stewart maintains a heavy daily schedule at 85 years old and rejects the notion of a traditional 9-to-5 job or work-life balance.

The media mogul didn't mince words on that count during a live appearance on Richer Lives by SoFi podcast with financial expert Vivian Tu, and even called people who try to achieve 'balance' as 'boring' with 'thick skulls.'

When asked how she juggles her personal life with her vast media and business empire, Stewart replied there is 'no such thing.'

'Just get that through your thick skulls. You can't balance it, it doesn't balance,' said the lifestyle guru, who recently bragged that brands give her a $40k wardrobe budget to attend runway shows.

'This thing about balance, I don't know who thought about that, but it just doesn't work. Maybe infrequently, and I'm jealous of those people, but they're all so boring,' Stewart said.

'You're gonna get divorced if you're going to get divorced. You're going to get married three times if you're going to get married three times. It just doesn't work out,' she went on, turning philosophical.

Stewart works nearly every day starting by 7am, and she's awake by 4am to read, do brain-stimulating puzzles and exercise before beginning her work day, per Business Insider.

She goes to her New York City office five days a week and stays on top of her media empire, lifestyle brand and other ventures.

The Martha Stewart Living founder previously bashed work-from-home policies.

'You can't possibly get everything done working three days a week in the office and two days remotely,' she told WWD.

'Look at the success of France with their stupid… you know, off for August, blah blah blah. That's not a very thriving country.'

She added: 'Should America go down the drain because people don't want to go back to work?'

As a teenager, Stewart earned a paycheck as a model in print ads and television commercials for Chanel, Lifebuoy Soap, Clairol and other brands.

After marrying Andrew Stewart, she honed in on a career in finance and worked as an institutional stockbroker on Wall Street.

She left finance and launched a gourmet catering business out of her farmhouse in Connecticut, leading to the release of her first bestselling book Entertaining in 1982.

Divorced since 1990, Stewart is continuing to make major waves in business and refuses to retire or slow down.

However, Stewart revealed she once lost $1 billion during a difficult stage of her life.

'I fell in a hole, and I lost about $1 billion,' she said during an appearance on the MasterClass podcast, Other People's Business, per People.

Stewart served five months in prison from October 2004 to March 2005 after she was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and making false statements to federal investigators regarding her sale of ImClone Systems stock.

But Stewart hasn't ever spent any money on plastic surgery, insisting she has avoided going under the knife for facial enhancements.

But she does get fillers to help maintain her youthful look.

'I go to Dr Dan Belkin in New York City. He is a very superb dermatologist. And I use a little bit of fillers. I go maybe once every four months for touch-ups,' she told People in August.

Stewart's first bestselling book Entertaining was published in 1982 and her career skyrocketed

'I have not had any plastic surgery at all. I don't think I need it.'

And she has ruled out having body enhancements, saying: 'I'm not getting boobs done and hips and butts and stuff like that.'

Facial exercises and peptides have helped the businesswoman's skin look its best.

'I do facial exercises and have the best facials from Mario Badescu and Georgia Louise. Peptides are very good. I take a few peptides. So that's what I do. I'm more a maintenance kind of person.'
