The Wonder Years star Danica McKellar revealed she was 'embarrassed' after realizing that she loved the taste of her placenta.

McKellar, 51, candidly discussed her postpartum experience on The Bobby Bones Show podcast on Tuesday, as she compared her placenta to a 'filet mignon.'

'My doula said, "Do you want to taste the placenta?" I'd just given birth, and I'm like, "Sure." I mean, you’re not in your right mind,' she recalled.

'She gave me a piece of it. Bobby, it was like the best filet mignon that I have ever tasted. But more,' the former child star shared.

'I was embarrassed about how much I loved it. It was bizarre. I thought, "What is this, some sort of weird satanic… Am I a cannibal?" [But] we are meant to have that.'

The actress has one son, 15-year-old Draco, from her previous marriage to composer Mike Verta. Following their 2012 divorce, she wed attorney Scott Sveslosky in 2014.

The practice of ingesting placentas has become a growing trend among new mothers.

Kim Kardashian, Hilary Duff, Alicia Silverstone, Mandy Moore and other A-list celebs have previously admitted to consuming the organ.

It forms during pregnancy to give oxygen and nutrients to the baby through the umbilical cord.

Mothers are normally allowed to take their placenta home if their intentions are made clear beforehand, but the guidelines may vary from hospital to hospital.

Advice is given on how to transport and store it at home hygienically - in a freezer without any other food - to reduce the possibility of it become infected with bacteria.

Advocates claim that consuming placenta can boost energy, help with postpartum recovery and improve lactation.

The practice, often referred to as placentophagy, has roots in traditional medicine but is becoming more mainstream.

Some believe placentas contain essential nutrients and hormones that support recovery after childbirth.

A number of women are turning to placenta encapsulation, during which the placenta is dried, powdered and placed into capsules.

While some studies suggest there are potential benefits, medical professionals remain divided on its effectiveness.
