After revealing the Sovereign and his plans to the entire nation, Wonder Woman sends in her girls to wage war against his army. Will these sidekicks have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with their mentors' most fearsome foes? |
Though brief, the synopsis teases a significant turning point in Diana’s battle against the Sovereign: “After revealing the Sovereign and his plans to the entire nation, Wonder Woman sends in her girls to wage war against his army.” With covers showcasing Wonder Girls from past and present — Yara Flor, Donna Troy, and Cassie Sandsmark — it’s clear that Diana is finally deploying her all-Amazon Justice League.

“Wonder Woman Sends in Her Girls to Wage War…” - Wonder Woman #17 Synopsis
Cover B David Nakayama Card Stock Variant for Wonder Woman #17
Before the chaos of Absolute Power, fans will remember Cassie, Donna, and Yara pushing their way into the conflict between Wonder Woman and the Sovereign, despite Diana’s insistence on handling it herself. However, after her Amazon sisters’ persistence, Diana finally relented and agreed to let them help. Readers, though, have yet to see that help fully materialize, as the Sovereign storyline was momentarily set aside to explore Absolute Power’s events with Diana. Wonder Woman #17, however, seems poised to officially bring the focus back to the roles Donna, Yara, and Cassie will play in this narrative.
The synopsis poses the question, “Will these sidekicks have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with their mentors' most fearsome foes?” This hints at the possible composition of the Sovereign’s army, which may feature some of Wonder Woman’s notorious adversaries, such as Giganta, Circe, Darkseid’s daughter, Angle Man, Silver Swan, Doctor Psycho, and more. While Diana has faced and defeated these enemies before, her new role as a mother to her newborn daughter suggests she may entrust the Wonder Girls to take on the Sovereign’s army in her stead.

Is Barbara “Cheetah” Minerva Part of Wonder Woman’s New Team?
Cover E 1:25 Jeff Spokes Card Stock Variant for Wonder Woman #10
Wonder Woman’s “girls” may even include Barbara “Cheetah” Minerva. Readers of King’s series will recall that before Absolute Power, Diana and Barbara shared an emotional moment that led to the two rivals finally settling their differences and forming a powerful alliance. With Cheetah yet to reappear since this pivotal partnership began, her return feels imminent. It’s increasingly likely that she’ll join the Wonder Girls in battle—or at the very least, help protect Diana's daughter from lurking threats. This raises the question of who will ultimately make up Wonder Woman’s “all-Amazon Justice League” and if Cheetah will indeed be part of this formidable team.

Created on the island of Themyscira, Wonder Woman is a super-powered demi-goddess with extreme physical strength who utilizes magical gifts (like her famous Lasso of Truth) to defeat her foes. As mighty as her fellow heroes Superman and the Justice League, Wonder Woman is unmatched in her compassion and virtue.
