Marvel seems to be setting up a massive Wolverine event where Logan joins a multiversal league of characters who share his savage nature. Wolverine is one of the most famous lone wolves in the Marvel Universe, naturally inclined to reject the idea of friendship and community in favor of a solitary life where he doesn't hurt anybody who doesn't deserve it. Yet, Logan is also a natural team player, often found in X-Men missions or teaming up with heroes like Spider-Man and Deadpool.

Wolverine has been part of a large and ever-increasing number of formal teams and improvised squads. Besides Charles Xavier's primary X-Men, Wolverine has also been a key member of X-Force, the Avengers, the Midnight Sons, Team X, the Secret Defenders, the Fantastic Four, and a wide variety of temporary teams like the old-school Regulators. At this point, Wolverine has accepted and embraced his tendency to collaborate with all kinds of heroes, anti-heroes, and even villains from all corners of the Marvel Universe.

Recently, Wolverine took a break from the X-Men's adventures and accidentally ended up partnering with longtime Spider-Man enemy Silver Sable, as well as with ally-turned-enemy-turned-ally Hercules, with whom he now faces a deadly threat: the Adamantine, the living embodiment of adamantium's mythical precursor.

Marvel Teases The Wolverine-Verse With The Savage Champions' Introduction

In Wolverine #19, the Greek goddess Athena reveals that Logan represents the archetype of the Savage Champion, encompassing man, beast, and metal in his universe just as other individuals represent the same concepts in other realities. Now, Wolverine #20 teases the introduction of a group of these Savage Champions, who witness Wolverine's near-death encounter with the Adamantine. One of them sports armor and a ponytail, another one wears a cowboy hat, and the other's silhouette resembles Hank McCoy's Beast form.

Wolverine Officially Debuts New Name And Costume For Major New X-Men Event

Wolverine officially unveils a new identity and costume for the X-Men's biggest 2026 crossover event, featuring an unexpected murder mystery.

These three mysterious characters are only three of the many Savage Champions that must exist across countless realities. And the fact that at least three of them already know each other and sense when one of their own is in peril suggests Earth-616's Wolverine is among the last of his kind to learn of their existence. With the Adamantine pushing him to the brink, it's time for Wolverine to join the Savage Champions and discover that he isn't alone in his constant suffering.

Wolverine May Become A Central Figure To The Marvel Multiverse, Like Spider-Man

The Spider-Verse overhauled Spider-Man's mythos from Peter Parker's localized scientific accident into a multiversal constant. While most Marvel characters have multiversal counterparts across countless timelines, Spider-Man is also connected to the Web of Life and Destiny, maintained by the Great Weaver. Spider-Man and all other Spider-People are also Spider-Totems, mystical avatars chosen by the Web to serve as its champions and hunted by the Inheritors. Now, the Savage Champions seem to be Wolverine's equivalent of the Spider-Totems and the first glimpse at the Wolverine equivalent of Marvel's Spider-Verse.

Most known Marvel universes have a Wolverine variant, meaning that statistically, most Savage Champions in the multiverse may be Logan variants.

Logan's grueling battle against the Adamantine may be a rite of passage that the rest of the Savage Champions may already have experienced. Once this existential threat is neutralized, Earth-616's Wolverine may be ready for a Wolverine-Verse crossover event, where a pack of diverse Savage Champions, ranging from Spartan gladiators to feral beasts, can unite as a permanent multiversal corps. For better or for worse, this new part of Wolverine lore may elevate Logan from a simple mutant brawler to a multiversal warrior.

Would you like Wolverine to become the star of a Spider-Verse-like event?

Wolverine #20 is available from Marvel Comics May 13, 2026.
