Since CD Projekt released The Witcher 3's REDkit modding tools a couple of years ago, it's been cool to see location revamps and new quests for the decade-old RPG start to emerge from the woodwork pretty regularly. The latest that's caught my eye is a substantial overhaul of Gerry and co's hangout Kaer Morhen, with a veteran modder having taken on the task of fleshing out the area to match its depiction in the first Witcher game.

Enter 'Kaer Morhen Extended Edition', snappily-handled modder OlivierR45455566465's attempt to expand the fortress and the contents of its surrounding valley to match the Witcher 1. To be fair, they certainly seem like the person for the job, having previously used Redkit to give the Blood and Wine DLC's Beauclair Palace book-accurate innards. This latest mod's actually their second Kaer Morhen overhaul, with the first having aimed to restore the keep it what it might have looked like in its ancient glory days.

"Shortly after I published my first Kaer Morhen mod, several members contacted me to ask if it would ever be possible to make a similar mod that would present Kaer Morhen in its entirety, but in its current state," the modder notes in Kaer Morhen Extended's description. "At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to jump back into working on the fortress, but they persisted with their polite requests and soon their enthusiasm won me over."

So, to deliver what those charming folks wanted, OlivierR45455566465's restored Kaer Morhen's second floor and basement, along with a number of landmarks CD Projekt opted not to pull over when making TW3. Upstairs, you'll find quarters for each Witcher, while the basement's home to a lab, a crypt, and a secret room inspired by Netflix animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

Beyond the walls, you'll find locations like the old Kikimore mine from the first Witcher game's Price Of Neutrality DLC - a storyline another Witcher modder has brought to TW3 in full - and the remains of Kaedweni sorceress Sabrina Glevissig's camp. That's all the specifics the modder got into, but they insist there are "many other surprises" from the likes of The Witcher 1 and the early 2000s Polish Witcher TV adaptation.

All in all, it looks ideal to give a go while The Witcher Remake remains release dateless and that extra Witcher 3 DLC rumours keep howling of remains a mysterious phantom not quite solid enough to stick your silver sword into. Kaer Morhen Extended doesn't come with a laundry list od requirements either, aside from Ray Bleach if you're planning on flicking the ray tracing on.
