EXCLUSIVE: Will Yun Lee (The Odyssey, The Good Doctor) has been promoted to series regular in the upcoming family drama series on HBO Max, How to Survive Without Me, from executive producer and writer Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions.

Lee was cast as a guest star in the pilot, playing Dr. Marcus Chen. With an easygoing confidence and calming presence, Chen is the oncologist who treated Beverly after her diagnosis. He continues to lend a comforting ear to certain family members after her passing.

How to Survive Without Me picks up in the wake of matriarch Beverly’s (Rita Wilson) passing, finding that the De Angelis family has begun to drift, unsure how to manage their complicated, evolving lives without her guidance.

The cast also includes Ray Romano, Joshua Jackson, Kaley Cuoco, Julia Schlaepfer, Jack Ball, Kylar Miranda, Julian Grey, Scarlett Abinante, Tommy Dewey, Matthew Kellison, Colette Porch, and Ella Rubin.

How to Survive Without Me was ordered to series last month and will consist of 15 episodes. The pilot was written by Berlanti and Bash Doran, with story by Berlanti, Doran, and Robbie Rogers. The studio is Warner Bros. Television. It marks the first show that married couple Berlanti and Rogers have co-created together.

Lee most recently can be seen opposite Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Additional film credits include The Wolverine, Elektra, Red Dawn, Total Recall, San Andreas, Rampage, and Die Another Day. He is widely recognized for his long-running role as Dr. Alex Park on ABC’s The Good Doctor, and also starred as the original Takeshi Kovacs in Netflix’s cyberpunk thriller Altered Carbon. In addition to his work in How to Survive Without Me, he will next be seen in Apple TV’s The Off Weeks, opposite Ben Stiller. Lee is represented by Buchwald and Vault Entertainment.
