Travis Barker Details Daughter Alabama's Chilling Premonition Nearly 20 Years After Plane Crash
Travis Barker is paying attention to all the small things.
That's why the Blink-182 rocker recently told his 22-year-old son Landon Barker to decline an invitation to appear on The Voice, advising him to "do things that are authentic to you" instead.
"My son called me the other day and he's like, "Hey, they offered me to go on The Voice,'" Travis shared on the Aug. 8 episode of the New York Times' Popcast podcast. "And I was like, 'Dude, you're way too cool for that.'"
"'You got to think about your idols,'" the 50-year-old recalled telling Landon. "If your idol is Kurt Cobain, would he ever do The Voice? No.'"
However, the drummer—who shares Landon, daughter Alabama Barker, 20, and stepdaughter Atiana de la Hoya, 27, with ex Shanna Moakler, as well as 2-year-old son Rocky Barker with wife Kourtney Kardashian—did acknowledge that he was being a bit "contradicting" seeing how had previously performed on American Idol several times.
"I'm different," he explained. "I'm doing fun s--t that's just fun for me 'cause I'm a drummer and I'm not on the forefront. It'd be different if I was singing with all these people."
In the end, Travis' advice to Landon, who's been pursuing a singing career, was to "stay on your own trajectory."
"I'm in the studio, I hear the songs that he's creating," he added. "There's no rush, you know?"

But Travis didn't always have such a methodical approach to protecting his kids' image. As he put it, "I used to almost get in fights with paparazzi, and I was not proud of any of that stuff. I used to have a temper."
Nowadays, he's realized "it's just all noise."
"I lead by example," he continued. "Be happy. Try not to harm anybody and just be a good person."
