WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Squid Game season 2.
Captain Park, who appears to be helping Jun-ho find Gi-hun and the location of the Squid Game in Squid Game season 2, turns out to be playing for the other team. Squid Game season 2 is finally here, with Lee Jung-jae back Seong Gi-hun. Season 2 also sees the return of Wi Ha-Joon as Hwang Jun-Ho and Lee Byung-hun's Front Man Hwang In-ho.
Squid Game season 3 is confirmed, which makes sense considering that season 2 ended on some massive cliffhangers. In addition to Gi-hun's failed revolution, Squid Game season 2's finale also revealed the true nature of Captain Park, who rescued Wi Ha-joon's Jun-ho but was secretly working for the bad guys the whole time.
Captain Park Was Secretly Working For The Squid Games’ Organizers The Whole Time
Captain Park is exposed as a traitor at the end of Squid Game season 2
As revealed at the end of Squid Game season 2, the initially friendly Captain Park turns out to be a foe to Jun-ho and the groups of mercenaries searching for Gi-hun. After devising a plan to sneak a tracking device into the location of the Squid Game, which was held on some unknown remote island off the coast of Korea, Gi-hun voluntarily went back into the Squid Game and planned to stage a secret attack. Once Gi-hun arrives in the Squid Game for the second time, he soon realizes that the tracking device was somehow removed from the inside of his fake tooth, which he had installed earlier in season 2.
Squid Game season 3 premiers in 2025.
Before Captain Park is exposed as a traitor at the end of season 2, Jun-ho believed that Park had saved his life after he had been shot by the Front Man – who turned out to be the brother he was looking for – and fell from a cliff into the sea. Captain Park is caught by one of the mercenaries tampering with the aerial drones they were using to scout the islands for signs of life and the Squid Game location. Exposed, Captain Park stabs and kills the mercenary and encourages Woo-seok, Jun-ho's associate, to go back to sleep after he wakes up to check on the noise.
Captain Park Was Likely Told To Rescue Hwang Jun-ho To Keep An Eye On Him
Captain Park was either instructed or hired by the Front Man
Park only kills one of the mercenaries in Squid Game season 2, since Jun-ho doesn't yet realize he's been betrayed. Jun-ho is still under the impression that Captain Park saved his life years earlier after he had fallen off the cliff. The stunning reality, however, is that Captain Park was either instructed or hired by the Front Man, otherwise known as In-ho, to rescue Jun-ho and to keep an eye on him. Even though In-ho has become a key figure of the Squid Game after winning it in 2015, he still cares for his brother and doesn't want him dead, which is why he only shot him in the shoulder at the end of season 1.

Why Squid Game Season 2 Is Shorter Than Season 1 Explained By Creator
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk explains why season 2 of the survival thriller show is shorter than season 1, and what led to the decision.
It's unclear at the end of Squid Game season 2 just how involved Captain Park is with the Squid Game and whether he has any previous experience or knowledge of the game itself. He could have just so happened to have discovered Jun-ho's body in the ocean and saved his life. The Front Man could have become aware of this and paid Captain Park handsomely to look after Jun-ho while also making sure that he could not return to the Squid Game island. Captain Park claims he doesn't know where the Squid Game island is. However, that is almost certainly a lie now that his true identity has been revealed.
Captain Park Being An Impostor Explains Why Jun-ho Could Not Find The Island
He was never going to let Jun-ho actually find the island
Even though Captain Park was seemingly a friend to Jun-ho and was determined to help him and Gi-hun on their mission to expose the Squid Game, he was never going to let Jun-ho actually find the island. The most likely motivation for Captain Park's betrayal of Jun-ho was either money or to avert a threat made by the Front Man. Knowing how dangerous and cunning the Front Man can be, especially after all the tricks he pulled on Gi-hun on others in season 2, it could very well be that Captain Park is following the Front Man's orders to protect his life and those of his family.
Park also tipped the Squid Game overseers off about an island they discovered using the drone, which explains the bomb that goes off in episode 6 "O X".
More information about Captain Park's involvement and motivation with the Front Man and the Squid Game will likely be explored in Squid Game season 3. The last scene of him shown in Squid Game season 2 is early on in the final episode, "Friend or Foe." Jun-ho is completely unaware of Captain Park's betrayal at this point but it appears that Woo-seok, who went out to check on the noise during the nighttime storm, has become suspicious of the Captain. It's probable that Woo-seok and Jun-ho will notice the missing drone pilot in season 3 and will demand answers from the Captain.
Captain Park Is The One Who Leaked Gi-hun’s Plan And Told Them About The Tracker
Captain Park plays dumb throughout the entire series
One of the biggest mysteries in Squid Game season 2 was how Gi-hun's tracker ended up in a tin of fishing worms on one of the islands. In season 2, episode 3 "001", Woo-seok and Jun-ho follow the tracking device to an island where an innocent fisherman has Gi-hun's tracking device in his bait. Simultaneously, right before Red Light Green Light begins, Gi-hun realizes that his plan is already compromised and the tracker is missing. Later in episode 4, Captain Park tricks Woo-seok into telling him the full story about Gi-hun's secret plan, as if he didn't already know.
Captain Park plays dumb throughout the entire series, pretending not to know what a drone is so as not to raise suspicions that he is an informant for the Squid Game overseers. He knew from the beginning that Jun-ho was planning to track down Gi-hun using a tracking device, information he then told to the Squid Game higher-ups who had the device removed before Gi-Hun woke up inside the Squid Game. Park also tipped the Squid Game overseers off about an island they discovered using the drone, which explains the bomb that goes off in episode 6 "O X". Captain Park appears to be playing catch up in Squid Game season 2 when he is really always two steps ahead.
