Robin Williams’ Daughter Zelda Williams Speaks Out After Fans Send Her AI Videos of Late Dad
Robin Williams' kids are honoring his legacy.
Nearly one year after daughter Zelda Williams condemned fans for sending her AI-generated videos of the late Good Will Hunting star, she and siblings Zak Williams, 43, and Cody Williams, 34, announced that they were reviving his Instagram to protect his legacy.
"As we recognize what would be our Dad's 75th year," the joint Aug. 17 post began, "we're grateful to see new generations discovering his work while longtime fans continue to celebrate the joy he brought into their lives."
"As technology evolves," the siblings' message continued, "we want this to be a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care."
The move behind reviving his Instagram account—which remained dormant since he died by suicide in 2014 at age 63—is to highlight real photos and videos of their dad.
"This is our way of sharing his unique talent and humor with the world, including the moments that made us and so many of you laugh," their statement concluded, "as we remember our Dad's extraordinary life and work. He continues to inspire us and delight people all over the world."
Zelda, 37—a staunch opponent of AI-generated videos—nearly rubbed a genie's lamp last year in hopes that online users wouldn't create or circulate the content.
"Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand," she wrote in an October Instagram Story. "I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, I'll restrict and move on."
"You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music," she continued. "And then shoving them down someone else's throat, hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross."
The Lisa Frankenstein director also emphasized that the Oscar winner would not have supported the content, either.
"But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop," she added. "It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want."
