Having served alongside Jack Reacher in the 110th Special Investigations Unit, Frances Neagley has become a dependable contact whenever things get dicey.
It has become common practice to see her involved in the series, as she was a significant part of the first three seasons, cementing her as a true fan favorite. As a result, it has been strange to see her completely absent throughout season 4 so far, and with just two episodes remaining, it's hard to see how she'd fit into the narrative.
The idea of her randomly showing up to help Reacher and his current friends in the final episode or two isn't completely out of the question, but having missed most of the investigation, there isn't a clear reason why Neagley would get involved other than seeing Reacher on the news.
With time running out for her to make a cameo, it may be time to accept that season 4 has chosen to ignore her, but there is a reason behind it. Maria Sten's character has resonated with fans and earned her place as a mainstay in the franchise, securing her a Neagley spinoff in Prime Video's Reacher universe.
The show is set to premiere just a week after Reacher season 4's conclusion, meaning we won't have to wait long to see the character despite her recent absence. Therefore, it's safe to assume she hasn't appeared because of the impending spinoff, which will give her more screen time than ever before.
Neagley's Spinoff Is Almost Certainly Behind Her Absence In Reacher Season 4

With an eight-episode show on the way, Neagley is set for a big return in just a few weeks, meaning she probably isn't needed in Reacher season 4. While a cameo in the finale could help set up her spinoff, viewers are familiar enough with the character by now to decide whether they'll tune into her solo project or not.
Reacher will also appear in Prime Video's Neagley spinoff, but Maria Sten is finally getting the opportunity to be a true protagonist in this franchise and step into the spotlight. With this in mind, perhaps the creators wanted to save her next appearance for this exciting new series to avoid diluting the impact of seeing her.
If she was already a major part of season 4's story, it may be hard to make Neagley feel different from the main show. Instead, it could end up feeling like another standard adventure with Neagley and Reacher, only this time they're switching roles, making the decision to keep her away from season 4 a bold yet strategic choice.
Now, audiences have had a little longer to miss her and will be generally curious about how her story will differ from a typical installment of Reacher. It could also explain what she has been doing since we last saw her, whereas involving her in the "Gone Tomorrow" adaptation would provide less leeway in that regard.
Even though there is still time for her to make an appearance, it seems like Neagley's absence in Reacher season 4 is almost certainly down to her starring in her own spinoff, and hopefully, the gamble to keep her off-screen pays off, ensuring her show feels that little bit more exciting.
Reacher Season 4's Tamara Has Made Up For Neagley's Absence
Even without Neagley, Reacher season 4 hasn't suffered and has arguably been one of the most fun yet, with Tamara perfectly filling the void left by Maria Sten's absence. Alongside being a moral police officer, Tamara is more than capable of handling herself, helping hold the group together while Reacher embarks on his solo quests.
She knows when to show compassion and when to play a little dirtier, as evidenced by her off-the-books arrangement with Cyrus. Tamara is far from a one-to-one copy of Neagley, but she embodies many of the same traits that make both of these characters particularly enjoyable to watch.
It feels like she has been involved in all the big moments, be it big shootouts, undercover infiltrations, or being on the run from Philadelphia's police force. Without taking the shine away from the protagonist, Tamara has stepped up seamlessly as Reacher season 4's best supporting character, and it would be great to see her again in the future.

Obviously, she needs to survive the remaining few episodes for this to happen, and with Reacher season 4, episode 6's ending leaving her in a dire situation, that may be wishful thinking. However, Tamara is crafty enough to find a way out, especially with Reacher alongside her, which should only further develop their bond.
While we certainly don't want to see Neagley sidelined permanently now that she has her own show, characters like Tamara easily make up for her absence, and it doesn't seem like Reacher will run out of great new additions any time soon.
