Murder Suspect Luigi Mangione’s Writings Call Out “Parasites” Who “Had It Coming”
Luigi Mangione’s supporters can put their wallets away.
After the 26-year-old was charged with the Dec. 4 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, his lawyer, Thomas Dickey, confirmed that while his staff has received emails from people looking to help fund Mangione’s legal defense, he doesn’t intend to take up any of the offers for money.
“To be honest with you, I probably wouldn’t,” Dickey told CNN in an interview that aired Dec. 10. “I just don't feel comfortable about that. So, I don't know. I haven't given that much thought.”
While the attorney may not be keen to collect payments from members of the public, he did acknowledge the wave of interest in his client, which includes a GiveSendGo fundraiser that has raised upwards of $34,000 for Mangione.
“Obviously, my client appreciates the support that he has,” Dickey continued, “but I don't know, it just doesn't sit right with me, really.”
While Dickey did not comment on who is paying his fees, he did theorize as to why Mangione’s supporters were so eager to contribute to his client’s legal bills.
“The Supreme Court says all these rich billionaires can give all kind of money to candidates, and that's free speech,” Dickey reasoned. “So, maybe these people were exercising their right to free speech and saying that's the way they're supporting my client.”

Mangione was arrested Dec. 9 at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Penn., where he faces two felonies—forgery and carrying a firearm without a license—as well as three misdemeanors including tampering with records or identification, possessing instruments of crime and providing false identification to law enforcement, according to NBC News.
Meanwhile, he also faces one count of murder, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of possession of a forged instrument in New York state, where the fatal shooting occurred, according to court documents viewed by the outlet.
Mangione’s lawyer said he intends to plead not guilty.
