After the Dawson's Creek alum dispelled a "completely false" story about her 18-year-old daughter, whose father is Tom Cruise, officially being a "millionaire" after her trust funds from either parent "kicked in," Katie received a lot of feedback.
While she got hundreds of supportive comments for her bid to protect her only daughter, she did receive some criticism, too.
"Gosh the hardships you guys face," one person wrote. "I wish these were my problems.... A story in a rag media outlet, when there are moms in parts of this world who hope their daughters just survive the day. So Just perspective."
Katie responded in acknowledgement of the commenters point while also maintaining her defense of Suri.
"I don't disagree," she said back. "But in the world today, I don't want a target on my child's back. It's dangerous."
The Batman Begins actress has largely kept her teenage daughter out of the spotlight since finalizing her divorce from Tom back in 2012 after five years of marriage.
That being said, she has begun to give some insight into their relationship in recent years.

"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," the 45-year-old told Glamour in 2023. "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."
Katie also made a rare comment more recently about Suri moving out and heading off to college this fall, a major change that she was taking in stride.
"I’m proud of my daughter," she told Town & Country in an interview published in August. "Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy."
Indeed, Katie and Suri's mother-daughter bond is so strong that the college student actually dropped her last name for her recent high school graduation and, instead, opted to be referred to as "Suri Noelle," Katie's middle name.
