Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden Welcome Baby No. 2!
What’s the secret to Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden’s nearly decade-long marriage? One word: therapy.
The Charlie’s Angels star, who tied the knot with the Good Charlotte guitarist in 2015, sat down with Benji’s twin brother and bandmate Joel Madden to discuss how their sessions help strengthen their relationship.
“Therapy is a big thing in our family, thank God,” she said on the Dec. 10 episode of Joel’s Artist Friendly podcast. “It’s what we depend on, so you have that commitment to work on it.”
Cameron, 52—who shares daughter Raddix, 4, and son Cardinal, 8 months, with the 45-year-old—explained that the practice helps them avoid doing “the same thing over and over again” by talking through their issues.
“Why didn’t it work? How can I make it work? What’s my part? What’s the other person’s work?” she continued. “Let’s be self-aware and go into the next attempt a little bit more equipped to hopefully come out with a different outcome.”
And when the going gets tough, Cameron and Benji focus on the bigger picture.
“Both people are not 100 percent every day,” she continued. “Even if you’re mad at each other and don’t want to see each other, sick of each other, it’s still 100 percent commitment to the marriage and to the partnership and getting things in the family. If it’s not 100 percent, it just doesn’t work if one person’s at a deficit.”

The My Best Friend’s Wedding star—who stepped away from acting for a decade—previously discussed how she and Benji balance their professional endeavors ahead of her return to the screen in the action comedy Back in Action, set for release in January.
“My husband, he’s just the best,” she said during Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit in October. “He was just like, ‘You've been supporting us and building the family.’ And supporting him in his businesses. He's like, ‘It’s time for us to support you and let mommy ascend and do her thing.’”
