Why Bad Bunny Can’t Perform at Grammys 2026

Rosé Brings the Drama in Sweeping Grammys 2026 Look

Bad Bunny is kicking off Super Bowl week with some vocal rest.

One week before headlining the 2026 halftime show, the Un Verano Sin Ti singer attended the 2026 Grammys, but, despite being nominated for six awards at the event, he confirmed to host Trevor Noah that he wouldn’t be performing on music’s biggest night.

“Whoever's doing the Super Bowl is contractually obligated to only do the Super Bowl,” Trevor said to Bad Bunny at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles Feb. 1, “so, you can't perform at the Grammys. Is this true?”

“I wish,” Bad Bunny responded. “but I can't.”

And when Trevor told the “Monaco” singer that he had expected to see him perform, Bad Bunny said, “Me too!”

In fact, the 31-year-old—who is nominated for six total Grammys this year, including Album, Record and Song of the Year—said, “I came here [and] I thought I was performing, but now I can't.”

While Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) may not be making much noise from stage during the Grammys, he has certainly been outspoken about what led to him making his album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.

“I had the desire for a long time to try to make a salsa album,” he told i-D in a September interview. “But I always thought about it for the future—like, ‘maybe when I’m 40.’ But why wait so long?”

So, he made it a priority, even while juggling a jam-packed schedule.

“During that time, I was touring Nadie Sabe lo Que Va Pasar Mañana, [on] the Most Wanted Tour,” Bad Bunny continued. “I spent some time living in L.A., it was the time of Coachella. I was [filming] Been Caught Stealing, I was doing Happy Gilmore [2], and I had never been so far from Puerto Rico for so long.”

That’s why his busyness actually pushed him to complete the album, as he added, “It drove me to [research] my roots, to connect with everything I am as a Puerto Rican.”

Indeed, the album is about blending his home country and his new life.

“With Nadie Sabe and DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, I say to the people, ‘I’m Hollywood, but I’m also Puerto Rico,’” he explained. “I’m also the hood. I can talk to these Hollywood people, and the next day I will be in the hood with my flag, with my swag, with my Puerto Rican slang.”

Bad Bunny wasn’t the only global superstar to attend the 2026 Grammys. Read on to see all the celebs who walked the red carpet.
