Alien: Romulus makes a big reveal with Kay's offspring baby, and while Robert Bobroczkyi may not be a recognizable name, he play's the movie's most memorable role. In a movie full of bold choices and twists, director Fede Álvarez saves one of the biggest, literally, until last. Alien: Romulus' ending builds upon Kay's (Isabela Merced) decision to inject herself with the mysterious black goo, transforming the human baby growing inside her into something new. She gives birth to a baby who initially looks mostly human, albeit with some similarities to the Engineers, but comes out of a xenomorph egg.
The reveal of Alien: Romulus' new xenomorph hybrid is a surprise, especially as the offspring grows and transforms into its final form. The pale white skin, clawed fingers and toes, tail, and more make the human-alien a terrifying new addition to the franchise mythology. Although portions of the offspring are done using CGI, there is an actor in Alien: Romulus' cast who plays the giant, skinny, and deadly creation. His identity and how tall he is in real life are confirmed.
Robert Bobroczkyi Is The Offspring's Actor In Alien: Romulus
He's A Former Basketball Player
The identity of Alien: Romulus' offspring actor is confirmed to be Robert Bobroczkyi. He is officially listed as part of the cast as "Offspring" in Alien: Romulus' credits. This marks Robert Bobroczkyi's first-ever acting role. Although he does not have any lines in the movie, playing Kay's human-alien offspring seemingly required him to wear prosthetics to achieve the final look of the creature before any CGI elements were added in.
Robert Bobroczkyi has not played basketball since 2021
Robert Bobroczkyi was born in Arad, Romania in July 2000. He moved to the United States in 2016 to attend high school and play basketball. It was during the course of his basketball career that he gained notoriety because of how tall he was. Bobroczkyi continued to play basketball through college at Rochester Christian University in Michigan. Alien: Romulus marks a turning point for him, as he experienced a film set for the first time to play the Offspring.
How Tall Robert Bobroczkyi Is In Real Life
He's Over 7 Feet Tall
The Offspring's height in Alien: Romulus is massive, as he towers over Kay and Rain (Cailee Spaeny) in the final act once fully grown. This is likely part of the reason why the movie cast Bobroczkyi to play the character. Robert Bobroczkyi is 7 feet 7 inches tall in real life. While it is unconfirmed how tall Alien: Romulus' human alien is in the end, it would seem that the 7'7 height of the actor is the shortest that the creature is.
His height alone is enough to instantly set the Offspring apart from the Xenomorphs and make him physically imposing.
Robert Bobroczkyi was 7'7 when he made his high school basketball debut in 2017, and he has maintained that height in the years since. That made him a great choice to play Alien: Romulus' offspring, as he had the perfect body type to play the new alien. His height alone is enough to instantly set the Offspring apart from the Xenomorphs and make him physically imposing.
Alien: Romulus Isn't The Only Movie To Use An Athlete To Play An Imposing Figure
A Former Athlete Played One Of Horror's Most Iconic Figures
Robert Bobroczky's Alien: Romulus role makes perfect use of the athlete's impressive physical stature in order to see this unsettling horror movie moment. However, there is another athlete whose participation in the horror genre is even more impressive. Tyler Mane is a former wrestler who has had some considerable acting roles in movies over the years, including playing Sabertooth in X-Men, a role he reprised in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Michael always seemed big, but Mane helped to turn him into a true beast.
However, after working with Rob Zombie on the horror movie The Devil's Rejects, Mane was cast as one of the most iconic horror movie killers of all time, playing Michael Myers in Zombie's Halloween and its sequel. While there have been many actors who have played Michael Myers over the years, Mane's muscle-bound frame of 6 feet 9 inches presented the most physically imposing take on the character. Michael always seemed big, but Mane helped to turn him into a true beast.
Along with Bobroczky's Alien: Romulus role, these are fine examples of how athletes can make unexpectedly great additions to the horror genre.
