Watching the cutscenes pays off
Image: Capcom via PolygonThere are two endings in Resident Evil Requiem, and which one you get depends on a choice you make as things hurtle toward a dramatic finale under Raccoon City. The choice is tied to a new piece of information Grace learns shortly before this point, and there's no guesswork involved in figuring out which password is correct. That part is taken out of your hands — but you do need to decide whether to use the password.
Below, we explain whether you should destroy or release Elpis and how that affects your Resident Evil Requiem ending.
[Ed. note: This guide contains major spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem. If you haven't played through RE9, we suggest coming back when you reach this point in the story. Otherwise, read on at your own risk!]
Should you destroy or release Elpis in Resident Evil Requiem?
Once Grace catches up with Leon outside Pandora, a cutscene plays where the two of them enter the terminal chamber. Grace tells Zeno she knows the password to access Spencer's secret weapon, and then you have to pick whether to use that password and release it or intentionally put in the wrong password, so ARK comes crashing down.
Nothing you did previously in Requiem has any effect on this choice or the ending you get. It's impossible to miss this moment in the game as well, so the only thing that determines which ending you get is what choice you pick here.

If you destroy Elpis, the ARK goes with it and so does one of Requiem's main characters. This is Resident Evil Requiem's bad ending and not a canonical one, either. It's like the alternate ending in Resident Evil 3 remake, where Jill doesn't pull the trigger in time: It exists, but it's more of a failed state than a proper, equal ending. Once it's done and the credits roll, you'll have the option to go back to the moment just before you destroyed Elpis. There are no achievements tied to this ending, so you're fine to skip it if you don't want to watch it.
Should you release Elpis?
Freeing Elpis is the correct choice that puts you on the path to Resident Evil Requiem's good ending. Grace will automatically input Spencer's password, so you don't have to worry about figuring it out for yourself, and a lengthy cutscene plays after that. Once it ends, you'll regain control of Leon and be thrown immediately into the final boss fight.
There's no point back after the fight ends. Several more cutscenes will play, the credits roll, and then you get a final tally of all the challenge points you earned plus a chance to spend them on new weapons and other upgrades that you can use for a new playthrough.
