Here’s when you can experience the fluorescent-lit, yellow wallpaper-laden purgatory in the comfort of your own home
Image: A24/Everett CollectionAfter years of liminal spaces, buzzing fluorescent lights, and endless yellow hallways haunting YouTube, the Backrooms is finally becoming a real Hollywood entity. Originally inspired by a single cursed internet image before exploding into a massive collaborative horror myth online, the franchise has now made its way to theaters through A24, and YouTube sensation Kane Parsons. But when can audiences expect to dive into the liminal horror for themselves from the safety of their own homes?
Movie theater tickets aren't cheap these days, and there's no question Backrooms is a terrifying trip into a mind-rending expanse filled with jump scares and psychological dread that some viewers might not want to experience on the big screen. To that end, here's everything we know so far about when Backrooms will no-clip its way into households everywhere.
When will Backrooms be available to rent or purchase digitally?
Image: A24/Everett CollectionThe wait between a theatrical debut and a digital release varies quite a bit, especially from studio to studio. Looking at A24's recent release schedule, most of its films have landed on digital platforms roughly a month after their theatrical debut. Notable examples include Bring Her Back (32 days), Death of a Unicorn (32 days), and Eddington (26 days).
There are some important exceptions, however. A24's Materialists (39 days), Civil War (42 days), and Marty Supreme (47 days) all took longer to reach PVOD (premium video on demand), largely due to strong critical reception and sustained box office momentum, which places Backrooms' theatrical digital release anywhere from four to six weeks after its theatrical run begins, depending on how well it performs.
When will Backrooms be available on Blu-ray and DVD?
If A24 follows its recent physical media schedule, Backrooms will likely arrive on Blu-ray and DVD around two to three months after its theatrical debut. As one example, Marty Supreme premiered in theaters on Dec. 25, 2025, and didn't receive a physical release until March 31, 2026, roughly three months later.
A more fitting candidate to follow may be A24's horror thriller Bring Her Back. The film debuted theatrically on May 30, 2025, before arriving on digital platforms that August, with a physical release following shortly thereafter. That's roughly a three-month turnaround, which lines up with A24's broader release patterns, but streaming releases are another beast entirely.
When will Backrooms be available on streaming?
Image: A24/Everett CollectionA24's current Warner Bros. Discovery deal means HBO Max is the most likely streaming home for the Backrooms film, so the question isn't really where you'll watch it, but when. Most films take significantly longer to reach subscription streaming services than they do digital storefronts, and A24 releases are no exception. Marty Supreme arrived on HBO Max on April 24, 2026, roughly four months after its theatrical debut. Other titles have taken even longer. Bring Her Back, for example, didn't land on HBO Max until October, around five months after its release.
With that in mind, Backrooms will likely arrive on HBO Max sometime before the end of the year, and possibly much sooner. September seems like the most likely month of its arrival, but it depends on how the film performs both critically and commercially, as with its digital release.
