Special Guest Shania Twain Performing Eartha Kitt's

As she opens her Netflix holiday special, A Nonsense Christmas, Sabrina Carpenter leaves audiences filled with anticipation as she reveals she only gets three F-bombs to drop throughout the hour. Of course, Carpenter uses her first two allocated F-bombs in her opening monologue when explaining this rule: “I’m allowed to say ‘f***’ three times… ‘f***.’ Just one left.” From then on, audiences have to pay close attention to see when the third and final instance will happen.

Though there are other forms of profanity used by Carpenter and A Nonsense Christmas’ special guests, the F-bombs are saved only for the pop star herself. Given how few she has, the expectation throughout the special is that the final one will come at a big moment during a song or skit. That turns out to not actually be the case, though Carpenter’s third F-bomb moment provides a hilarious final gag for the special.

Sabrina Carpenter Simply Says "F***" When A Nonsense Christmas' Ending Credits Begin

She Says The Expletive When The Final Title Card Appears

At the very end of A Nonsense Christmas, Sabrina Carpenter uses the final F-bomb allowed under the special’s TV-14 rating. The last F-bomb happens after the bloopers reel, as Carpenter’s voice can be heard abruptly saying “F***” as the music fades and the closing title card appears. Just after she drops the special’s third F-bomb, A Nonsense Christmas’ soundtrack plays the melody of Carpenter’s eponymous song.

A Nonsense Christmas is Sabrina Carpenter's first TV role since Royalties in 2020.

Though there was some innuendo and mature content hidden throughout A Nonsense Christmas, Carpenter still generally kept the holiday special more accessible for teen audiences. The more mature content largely occurred throughout her singing monologs and skits with actors like Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson and Stranger Things’ Sean Astin (who portrays Santa Claus). For those who might be deemed too young to watch the full special, Carpenter still keeps A Nonsense Christmas clean in her song performances like “Last Christmas” with Chappell Roan and “Santa Baby” with Shania Twain.

Why Sabrina Carpenter Only Gets To Drop An F-Bomb 3 Times In A Nonsense Christmas

Netflix Only Allowed Her 3 Under TV-14 Content Guidelines

Sabrina Carpenter is only given three total F-bombs to use in the 2024 TV special due to the special being labeled TV-14. That guideline is further marked “Parents Strongly Cautioned,” indicating that many parents may not feel the content in the program is suitable for children under the age of 14. This is less strict than the TV-MA rating, which is intended for mature audiences only and may be unsuitable for those ages 17 and under.

Sabrina Carpenter got her start on the Disney Channel, but she has come a long way in both her acting roles and her musical ventures.

Under the TV-14 rating, shows may contain sexual situations as well as suggestive and/or strong language. Certain networks and studios have different rules for how frequently such strong language or innuendo can be included in a TV-14 show before it warrants a TV-MA rating. Therefore, while it’s not the case for every show, Netflix deemed it appropriate under the TV-14 guidelines for A Nonsense Christmas to have three F-bombs total, which, for the 50-minute runtime, kept the profane word’s use moderate rather than excessive.
