Star Wars released several new TV shows in 2024, and some of them absolutely rank among Star Wars' best TV shows. 2024 proved to be an interesting year for Star Wars. Although there were a number of new and returning TV shows, Star Wars released no new movies, and news about Star Wars' upcoming movies was minimal.
Even more surprising, Star Wars' upcoming TV shows have become quite thin. At present, only Andor season 2 and Ahsoka season 2 are confirmed. This is quite a difference from 2024, which saw the release of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, The Acolyte, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Each of these shows brought something unique to Star Wars, and several of them were truly excellent.
Tales Of The Empire Surprised Star Wars Audiences—In A Good Way
Many Expected Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi Season 2
Tales of the Empire came as a genuine surprise, as many were expecting Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi season 2 in its place. Tales of the Jedi followed two story arcs, each comprising three episodes. As one arc was focused on Ahsoka Tano and the other focused on Count Dooku, the assumption was that Tales of the Jedi season 2 would pick two new Jedi and follow the same structure.
Instead, Star Wars announced Tales of the Empire, a show that did maintain the structure of Tales of the Jedi but focused on characters who joined the Empire. The first, Morgan Elsbeth, was a returning character from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka and a Nightsister of Dathomir, and the second was Barriss Offee, a former Jedi who had been thrown in a Republic jail after contributing to the bombing of the Jedi Temple in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Although it was unexpected, Tales of the Empire was a thrilling change.
Barriss Offee's arc was particularly exciting because Barriss hadn't been seen since Anakin Skywalker cleared Ahsoka's name and implicated Barriss in the attack on the Temple. Her Tales of the Empire story also saw her become one of the Imperial Inquisitors and then come to terms with what her involvement in the Empire really meant. Morgan's arc was also interesting because she has become so much more important in Star Wars, especially in light of Ahsoka.
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy Impressively Delivered
Although It Wasn't Canon, Rebuild The Galaxy Was A Wonderful Addition To Star Wars
LEGO and Star Wars have a long-running relationship, and there have been a number of LEGO Star Wars projects that have been delightful. However, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy managed to truly stand out as a brilliant Star Wars TV show. Although Rebuild the Galaxy is not canon, it brought several very popular ideas to the Star Wars screen.
Most notable among these was certainly Darth Jar Jar, which began as a joke in the Star Wars fanbase but has since gained significant traction as a theory. Even beyond this character, Rebuild the Galaxy brought back Sith Rey, giving her much more screen time than she got in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and brought creative ideas like Ewok bounty hunters and surfer Luke Skywalker to the Star Wars screen. Rebuild the Galaxy also managed to get Ahmed Best back to voice Jar Jar Binks and Mark Hamill back to voice Luke Skywalker, making it all the better.

The Acolyte Gave Star Wars Something Brand-New
Despite The Backlash, The Acolyte Had Incredible Potential
Although there was significant backlash to The Acolyte, this Star Wars show truly was one of the best of 2024. The Acolyte promised to be a brand-new type of Star Wars show, set during the High Republic Era and focused on stories outside the Skywalker Saga. For the most part, the show delivered. The Acolyte introduced new Jedi Masters and Padawans, a new Force cult called the Witches of Brendok, and powerful Force-sensitive sisters Osha and Mae.
The show also brought about the very first on-screen appearance of Darth Plagueis in Star Wars and introduced a new Sith, Qimir/the Stranger. Sadly, The Acolyte was canceled, which means these characters' stories and the many ideas from the show may not have a future in Star Wars. Even if that proves true, though, The Acolyte was an exciting addition to Star Wars TV shows, and it didn't deserve the vitriol and negativity.

The Bad Batch Season 3 Was The Perfect End To The Clones' Stories
The Bad Batch Finale Was One Of Star Wars' Best Conclusions
The second-best Star Wars project of 2024 was The Bad Batch season 3. Season 3 was the emotional conclusion of the beloved show, and it had to bring an end not only to the Bad Batch's story but also to the overarching clone story in the franchise. The Bad Batch season 3 finale managed to do that perfectly and, shockingly, even gave the clones a very rare happy ending.
The Bad Batch also drove home the fact that, despite everything that transpired in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars, the clones were people, and they deserved to live full lives, free of both the Empire and the Republic. The show's ability to so fully stick the landing, in addition to its other positives, such as the beloved members of the Bad Batch themselves, make this the second-best Star Wars project in all of 2024. Hopefully, this story also isn't entirely over yet, as the finale hinted Omega could be seen again.
Skeleton Crew Is Only Halfway Through... But It Is Peak Star Wars
Skeleton Crew Has Managed To Capture The True Spirit of Star Wars
Skeleton Crew may only be halfway through, but it has already proven to be the single best Star Wars show of 2024. In addition to the absolutely brilliant cast of characters in Skeleton Crew, the show's tone, concepts, and storyline are true to the spirit of the larger Star Wars franchise. The show has introduced a number of new planets and has managed to dig deep into Star Wars Legends for characters and plot points. In that sense, Skeleton Crew manages to be both innovative and respectful of all that has come before—a notorious challenge in this franchise.
