With many of us taking some time off over the next couple of weeks, it's the perfect time to check out some great new titles on streaming. This week, there's plenty to choose from, whether you're looking for some Christmas Day football (featuring Beyoncé) on Netflix, a new Doctor Who special on Disney Plus, or some house flipping from HGTV stars Heather Rae and Tarek El Moussa.
Earlier this year, Netflix paid a hefty $150 million for the rights to air this year's Christmas Day NFL doubleheader (as well as the Christmas games for 2025 and 2026), you can tune into those games live starting at 1 p.m. on Dec. 25. For even more brutal competition, just wait a day and check out the new season of Squid Game when it arrives on the platform on Dec. 26.
On Disney Plus, Ncuti Gatwa and Nicola Coughlan co-star in a new holiday-themed episode of Doctor Who, titled Joy To The World, or catch a new season of The Flipping El Moussas on Max. On Apple TV Plus, the season two finale of Shrinking will air on Dec. 25. Despite airing on Christmas, it'll be a Thanksgiving-themed episode -- just to keep us on our toes.

Squid Game Season 2 (Dec. 26)
Taking place three years after the events of season one -- and airing three years after the show's wildly popular streaming debut -- Squid Game's highly anticipated second season once again focuses on Lee Jung-jae's Gi-hun, aka Player 456. Returning to the competition, Gi-hun's goal isn't to win but to find a way to bring the show to an end. To do so, he'll have to find a way to outwit the ever-mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun, also returning from season one). Wi Ha-jun is among the familiar faces returning for the second season, which will also showcase a new crop of contestants. How long any of them last is anyone's guess. Streams on Netflix starting Dec. 26.

Doctor Who: Joy To The World (Dec. 25)
After a brief switch to New Year's-themed shows, Doctor Who's rich tradition of Christmas specials returned last year with The Church on Ruby Road. Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor marks his second festive season with Joy to the World, in which a woman (Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan) checks in to a hotel in London and opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel. We're promised dinosaurs and a dastardly, globe-spanning evil plan, but we're guessing the Doctor and his companion will be up to the task. The special will be available on Disney Plus on Christmas Day.

Shrinking, season 2 finale (Dec. 25)
The Apple TV Plus series Shrinking began as a dramedy about a therapist Jimmy Laird, played by Jason Segel, struggling to pick up the pieces of his life and be present for his teenage daughter in the wake of his wife's death. The show's second season draws to a close this week and, while it's main themes of grief and parenting are still very much at the forefront, especially after the most recent episode which saw Jimmy head into a downward grief spiral, it's also about the friends who become family and how they support one another. The show has one of the best ensembles on TV, rounded out by incredible performances from Harrison Ford as Paul, Jimmy's professional mentor, Jessica Williams as his colleague Gaby, plus Michael Urie, Christa Miller, Luke Tennie and Ted McGinley. The season 2 finale airs on Christmas.
