Kelly Stafford Shares Update on Kids' Hospitalization Ahead of Husband Matthew Stafford’s Game
Matthew Stafford’s failed Super Bowl efforts didn’t stop him from having a winning dad moment.
After the Los Angeles Rams were bested by the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC championship game—which decided who will play the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Feb. 8—the LA-based quarterback admitted that a successful parenting moment kept him from spiraling over the loss.
“My daughter was crying after the game in my arms and saying, ‘Dad, I feel so bad for you,’” Matthew recalled during the Jan. 26 episode of his Let’s Go! podcast. “And I told her, ‘You know what, don’t feel bad for me. My life is a blessing. I get to play this game. I’ve gotten to play it for 17 years. I got four little girls that are cheering me on, a beautiful wife that’s doing the same.’”
Indeed, the 37-year-old—who shares 8-year-old twins Sawyer and Chandler, Hunter, 7, and Tyler, 5 with wife Kelly Stafford—admitted that the sweet moment helped him put life into perspective.
“Sports, and football in particular, is difficult at times but it gives me the opportunity to teach my kids and be something for them,” he explained. “It was a moment in time I’ll never forget. Just being able to talk to her in that moment and bring her back from tears but also just saying it to her and saying it to myself at the same time. It’s a special thing.”
Despite the upset for the Rams—who last won the Super Bowl in 2022—Matthew emphasized that he still got something out of their final game of the season.
“Have the courage to go put yourself out there,” he shared, “Live with the results and learn from them.”

Matthew’s wife Kelly, meanwhile, also shared a glimpse into how the family came together after the loss.
“After leaving everything out on that field and coming up short,” the podcaster shared on Instagram Jan. 26, alongside a baby monitor video of Matthew tucking in his daughters, “at 2:30 am, this was Matthew.”
Of course, the Stafford girls were just as supportive to their dad this past season. After all, Kelly previously shared that they attended 15 of his 17 regular season games, as well as the playoffs, complete with coordinating outfits to support his team.
“The passion for football it instilled in my daughters (now all of the them want to play QB on a girls flag football team) is so fun to see, but also for them to start to understand how hard work and dedication pays off,” Kelly wrote in a Jan. 7 Instagram post. “Incredibly blessed to witness the man I love, with the girls I love, do the thing he loves most.”
