I know that Conan Exiles exists because everything must be based on some kind of pre-existing property. Still, the fact it's managed to continue to exist for a whole decade tickles me. What do you mean this game based on a 100 year old character that most people probably link to Arnold Schwarzenegger above anything else is still going strong? So strong, in fact, that it is getting a big update next month that revamps the survival game's look and makes various nice sounding tweaks. For free!

Quite simply titled Conan Exiles Enhanced, the top billing item is the aforementioned visual change. Over in a blog post on Steam, developer Funcom explains that, having been made alongside Inflexion Games, the update features "dramatically improved visuals, enhanced performance, and cutting‑edge rendering technology powered by Unreal Engine 5."

I would certainly argue that they're dramatically different, but I never like this framing of newer being better. Good thing that you will still have the option to play the Unreal Engine 4 version, which can be chosen in the Funcom launcher apparently. The update also targets 60+ FPS whether on low, medium, high or ultra settings, and perhaps notably for all of you that play on the go, there's now Steam Deck support! Which also apparently boasts strong performance.

Beyond that, there are a number of quite big quality of life changes too. Both the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah (assuming you own the latter's DLC) can be explored with the same character, with the option to teleport between them, "no restart required." You'll now be able to make multiple characters on one account too. UI has also seemingly had a touch-up resulting in "cleaner menus and improved navigation," and crafting now "takes ingredients from nearby storage and follower inventories."

There's a number of other improvements and bug fixes that have been made too, and helpfully, the client size is now a measly 40GB, a third of its previous 120GB size. Can't complain, really! The entire update isn't far away either, as it's arriving May 5th, which marks the game's fifth anniversary.
