Inauguration 2025: Ivanka Trump, Barron Trump and More Must-See Attendees
It’s the hat everybody’s talking about—even Donald Trump.
After being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States during the 2025 Presidential Inauguration, the Commander-In-Chief commented on First Lady Melania Trump’s scene-stealing accessory, a navy blue brimmed hat with a white band designed by Eric Javits.
“We went out to the helicopter just prior to this and said goodbye,” Trump told the crowd Jan. 20 as his wife looked on from the stage. “The wind is blowing like crazy, and with the hat that she’s wearing, she almost blew away.”
“We almost lost her,” he continued as the audience laughed. “She was being elevated off the ground. She almost blew away.”
The First Lady’s headpiece topped off an Adam Lippes ensemble which consisted of a double-breasted navy silk wool coat and matching pencil skirt, along with an ivory silk crepe blouse and blue suede heals.
“The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy and today we had the honor to dress our first lady, Mrs. Melania Trump,” Lippes said of the custom wardrobe in a statement shared Jan. 20. “Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world.”
However, the show-stopping chapeau was nearly nixed from the getup due to an issue during shipment from Miami to New York, creating what Javits called “a little bit of a cliffhanger.”

“I guess the hat arrived all crushed,” he said in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily published Jan. 20. “It looked like it had been sitting in snow drifts for about a week. Obviously, I had to scramble to redo it. It couldn’t really be repaired, because of the construction of it.”
Fortunately, a new hat was made and transported to Melania by her stylist Hervé Pierre, who according to the designer, “took it back to her by hand to minimize any other disasters that could possibly happen.”
