This article contains SPOILERS for From season 3, episode 6!After venturing back to the tree, Tabitha and Jade desperately work to figure out the puzzle of the faraway bottle tree’s numbers in From season 3, but they remain a mystery. From’s faraway trees have been a source of intrigue since season 1, as Victor showed Ethan that they could be used to transport to different place around town, but there’s no way of knowing where the person who walks through will be sent. One of these faraway trees is also a bottle tree, with several trees in the forest having glass bottles hanging from branches with numbered papers inside.
Though the bottle trees’ origins and true purpose are still unclear, From season 3 has put a greater focus on the potential meaning of the numbers written on papers inside. The show has established that Victor’s mother, Miranda, made two different bottle trees in her hometown of Camden, Maine, but From hasn’t confirmed whether the ones in town already existed before her art installation and subsequent arrival. Therefore, the secrets about the bottles’ numbers might have died with Miranda, yet Jade is still intent on finding the pattern that reveals their meaning.
What Jade Has Learned About The Bottles' Numbers So Far
Jade Has Obsessed Over The Numbers In From Season 3
Working alongside Ethan and Tabitha, Jade’s research has unlocked some curious details about the numbers, but they’ve yet to give him a meaningful pattern by the events of From season 3, episode 6. So far, Jade has learned that there are four numbers on every slip of paper, some are written backwards, some are repeated multiple numbers, some are written in cursive, some numbers are flipped, and some begin over 9000. Only a few of the numbers have been explicitly pointed out to the audience, including “1864” and “2659.”
The only faraway tree that is known to also have glass bottles hanging from it is the one that Tabitha and Miranda used to travel to the lighthouse.
Jade believes that these numbers could be key to solving the other mysteries in town, such as the meaning of From’s symbol and the history of the “Anghkooey” children. However, he still hasn’t figured out exactly what the four numbers on each paper slip correlate to and what they have to do with the faraway tree’s powers. Still, Jade does have a compelling theory about what the numbers might mean, which may tie into each and every trapped person’s story in From.

Jade's Theory About Them Being Years Seems To Be Debunked
The top theory that Jade has for the numbers’ meaning so far is that they could each correlate to a date. What those dates could be is also unknown, but the four-number pattern could indicate a year. If they are years, then each number might signify the year that From's characters became trapped in town, explaining why some of them repeat. The number “1864” could therefore be tied to the Civil War soldier who Jade has seen in visions in town. At the same time, Tabitha seemingly debunks this theory by pointing out that “2659” wouldn’t fit this pattern.

Numerous fan theories have also abounded since the numbers were introduced. Some believe that the numbers are measurements of distances to find where the faraway trees have moved, while others have speculated that they correlate to street addresses. Alternatively, the truth could lie in the theory that Jim subscribes to: the numbers have no meaning, and Jade may never find a pattern that gives him the answers he seeks. While the hope is that From will at least reveal who wrote the numbers and why, it’s always possible that they're a red herring by the town to keep the residents confused.
