Nicola Peltz Details Brooklyn Beckham’s Bond With Her Family Amid Beckham Estrangement

Blood may be thicker than water, but it's certainly not stronger than the bond Brooklyn Peltz Beckham shares with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham

After years of speculation about just how deep the chasm was between Victoria BeckhamDavid Beckham and their eldest child, the 27-year-old confirmed Jan 19 that it was irreparable.

"I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” the Cloud23 founder began his six-part Instagram Stories statement. "Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed." (E! News has reached out to David and Victoria’s reps for comment.)

His truth dates back to before his and the actress' April 2022 vows, Brooklyn claiming that despite publicy praising their soon-to-be daughter-in-law ("She's such a lovely, warm, wonderful, wonderful woman," Victoria shared in a 2020 interview), "My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped."

And, as it turns out, Nicola's not the only one who struggled to be Brooklyn's lover

"My time with the family caused me a lot of anxiety, in all honesty," model Hana Cross—who dated Brooklyn back in 2019—recently told Hello! magazine. "There were a lot of warning signs and things that happened during the relationship that, in hindsight, should have made me think and maybe end the relationship or walk away from it a lot sooner than I did."

But while Hana and Brooklyn eventually ended their romance, his journey with Nicola led them right down the aisle to a day that now feels pretty bittersweet.

As the couple planned to say I do at her family's Palm Beach, Fla., his designer mom Victoria suddenly said she wouldn’t create Nicola's wedding dress "in the eleventh hour," Brooklyn wrote, "despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress." (At the time, Nicola told Variety she went with Valentino Couture rather than a Victoria Beckham design because "she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it.")

They also tried to stop her from being able to have and to hold the Beckham family name, Brooklyn insisted.

"Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children," he detailed. "They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since."

Another issue that was brought to the table was the bride and groom's decision to include their grandmothers—"My Nanny Sandra and Nicola's Naunni"—at their table "because they both didn't have their husbands."

Though their parents each had their own tables "equally adjacent to ours," Brooklyn wrote, "My mum went so far as to call me evil."

And it's not as if the Beckham crew had been bending over backward to include Nicola, he said: "The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was 'not blood' and 'not family.'"

Even the big day itself wasn't free from less-than-happy tears, with Brooklyn sharing his side of the much-dissected wedding dance drama

Having planned for Marc Anthony to serenade their first dance as husband and wife, "My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song," Brooklyn detailed.

When the four-time Grammy winner called him to the stage for what he thought would be a romantic encounter with his new wife, "instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life."

That was the impetus for the couple staging a re-do last August at the Peltz family estate in Westchester County, N.Y.

"We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness," Brooklyn explained, "not anxiety and embarassment."

Unfortunately, his relationship with his parents and siblings Romeo Beckham, 23, Cruz Beckham, 21, and Harper Beckham, 14, can’t be so easily mended.

"Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I've received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders," said Brooklyn, who also referenced Cruz's December claim that they'd been shut-out on social media. "Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last Summer."

Until that point, Brooklyn detailed, they'd still been trying to keep it in the family.

Despite his claim that Victoria "repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable," they made the trip out to his old stomping grounds with the intention of attending David's posh 50th birthday bash

As they hung in their hotel hoping to schedule a family get-together, David "refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner," wrote Brooklyn. "When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn't invited. It was a slap in the face."

SImilarly, when the fam came stateside, "They refused to see me at all," said Brooklyn. And it was a firm no when Nicola asked for Victoria's assistance in working to save dogs that were displaced during the widespread L.A. fires last January.

As such, Brooklyn is ending his dogged pursuit to reconcile with his parents and siblings.

"I do not want to reconcile with my family," he insisted. "I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life."

The way he sees it, "For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family," he continued. "The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they'll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out."

His certainly is.

"The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards," he wrote, insisting, "I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief."

So he's done with the forced press appearances, the idea that it's his job as a member of "Brand Beckham" to "drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it's at the expense of our professional obligations."

Moving forward, he summed up, "My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family."

Nicola Peltz Beckham Didn’t Wear Victoria Beckham on Her Wedding Day

There’s no rule saying you have to say yes to your future mother-in-law’s signature label on your wedding day, but it was widely assumed from outside the planning circle that Nicola Peltz Beckham would wear a Victoria Beckham dress down the aisle when she and Brooklyn Beckham tied the knot in April 2022 at her family’s estate in Palm beach, Fla.

So when she didn’t, going with Valentino Couture instead… Bad blood alert!

Nicola stayed mum on the subject for months before finally saying there was no dress drama, perhaps minus the disappointment when she found out she wouldn’t be able to wear custom VB.

“I was going to and I really wanted to,” Nicola told Variety in August 2022, “and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”

Added Brooklyn, “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.”

Speaking to Grazia the following month, Nicola called the Beckhams “great in-laws.”

Victoria Beckham Supports Brooklyn Beckham's Wedding Day

Victoria, also not usually one to comment on tabloid stories until way after the fact, called the Peltz-Beckham nuptials “a beautiful wedding.”

“As a mother, to see my son so happy means so much,” she said on TODAY that October. “What more can you ask for?”

Nicola Peltz Didn’t Attend Victoria Beckham’s 50th Birthday Bash

Tom Cruise and all four of Victoria’s fellow Spice Girls were at her posh 50th birthday party on April 20, 2024, but her daughter-in-law was not.

Because, Nicola soon made clear on Instagram, she was spending time with her grandmother, who died less than a month later.

In lieu of her presence at the party, Nicola wrote on Instagram, "Happy birthday to my beautiful mil @victoriabeckham i'm so sad i'm not there to celebrate you and hug you. Sending all my love from me and my naunni. I miss you all so much!" (Meanwhile, she had also shouted out Victoria on her actual April 17 birthday, captioning a photo of them together, “i love you so much and love being your dance partner forever."

And Naunni’s passing wasn’t just devastating to Nicola. On May 16, Brooklyn paid tribute on Instagram, writing, “Can’t believe it’s been a year without you naunni x you were always so happy and always made me laugh. I miss you and will love you forever x… it makes me so sad to think of our future kids not being able to know you x you were one of a kind and we miss you everyday.”

Brooklyn Beckham Doesn’t Play Into Family Feud Narrative

Looking back at his “crazy childhood” as the son of a football star and a Spice Girl, Brooklyn told InStyle in June 2024, “I was so happy.”

And while it was admittedly “hectic,” he added, “I have the best mum and dad in the world and it was a lot of fun.”

Everyone’s Together for Christmas

While Brooklyn and Nicola spent part of the 2024 holiday with the Peltzes, no one needed a visit from the ghosts of Christmas Past or Future: Photos David Beckham, Victoria, Brooklyn and Nicola shared that December showed that all the Beckhams were together in the present.

"Being together for the holidays makes me so happy xxxx I love you all so much," Victoria captioned her carousel of pics, tagging all her kids and her daughter-in-law.

Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz Skip David Beckham’s 50th Birthday Party

No official reason given as yet, but Brooklyn and Nicola were noticeably absent from the photos his parents posted when family and friends gathered in London to celebrate David's big 5-0 in May 2025.

A source told E! News that the couple went to England, skipping the May 5 Met Gala in the process, "in hopes they could see David and celebrate his birthday with him that week, weekend instead."

Did Brooklyn Beckham Have an Issue With Romeo Beckham’s Girlfriend?

An insider told People that it was Brooklyn who put the kibosh on attending David’s party because he didn’t want to see brother Romeo Beckham’s then-girlfriend, DJ Kim Turnbull, who had been popping up at more and more family affairs, including the March 2025 Victoria Beckham show during Paris Fashion Week, since the couple went public with their relationship in November 2024.

However, responding to an Instagram commenter who was speculating as to why Brooklyn felt so strongly about being around Kim that he skipped his dad’s party altogether, youngest brother Cruz Beckham wrote, “Brooklyn and Kim never dated.”

And E! News learned in June 2025 that Romeo and Kim have since broken up, so perhaps a brotherly reunion is in order.

Nicola Peltz Beckham Was Allegedly in Tears When Wedding Guest Marc Anthony Shouted Out Victoria Beckham

More fuel for the wedding drama fire: The newlyweds’ first dance didn’t go as expected, and it’s extremely unclear why it went down as it allegedly did.

“Brooklyn and Nicola were under the impression they were being gifted their first dance by Marc Anthony,” a source told E! News in May 2025. Instead, the singer announced, “‘Please welcome to the stage the most beautiful woman in the room—Victoria Beckham.’ Brooklyn wasn’t quite sure what to do and was put in an awkward situation.”

Moreover, the source continued, “Nicola left the room crying. She eventually came back and was able to collect herself to celebrate the rest of her wedding.”

The incident wasn’t so disastrous on the groom’s side of the family as to prevent David from being a best man at Marc’s wedding in January 2023, when he married fourth wife Nadia Ferreira. But it’s understandable if the bride had a harder time getting over it.

Brooklyn and Nicola “have made good faith efforts over the years” to have a relationship with his family, the source said, but at this time things aren’t good.

Probably apropos of nothing, though possibly not, Brooklyn called Nicola his “whole world” in a May 2025 Instagram post, writing, “I always choose you baby x you’re the most amazing person I know xx me and you forever baby.”

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Hire a Lawyer

When the stories get pointed, the pointed-at retain legal counsel. And the May story about Nicola being brought to tears at her own wedding three years ago may have been a harbinger of more to come.

In response to reports that Brooklyn and Nicola had hired a lawyer who has worked with the oft-written-about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a source with knowledge confirmed to E! News that the couple do have a lawyer, but not for “reputation management.”

Rather, the source said, they have hired Jenny Afi of U.K. law firm Schillings “to set the record straight, combat spread of misinformation.”

And while the solicitor’s clientele includes the Sussexes, who counted the soon-to-be-knighted David and Victoria among their wedding guests in 2018, “there is absolutely no connection to Meghan and Harry,” the insider added. “Schillings is a respected firm with a wide range of clients.”

Suggesting otherwise, the source said, ironically demonstrated “exactly why one hires legal counsel, to set the record straight and combat the spread of deliberate misinformation.”

Brooklyn Beckham Absent for David Beckham's Career Milestones

When David was awarded a knighthood in November 2025, neither Brooklyn or Nicola publicly commented on the accolade. The couple was also noticeably absent when David's soccer team Inter Miami CF won the MLS Cup in December 2025—with only Victoria, Romeo, Cruz and Harper at the game to celebrate the victory.

Brooklyn Beckham Allegedly Blocks His Parents and Siblings on Instagram

After fans noticed that neither David or Victoria were following Brooklyn's Instagram in late December 2025, Cruz shut down speculation that the longtime couple blocked their oldest son on social media.

“NOT TRUE,” he wrote on Instagram Stories. “My mum and dad would never unfollow their son..Let’s get the facts right. They woke up blocked…as did I."

Brooklyn Beckham Spends Christmas Away From Family

Brooklyn Beckham skipped out on his family's 2025 Christmas celebrations, opting to spend the holiday with wife Nicola's family instead, including her mom Claudia Heffner Peltz and dad Nelson Peltz. Meanwhile, younger brother Cruz spent a cozy holiday at home with his parents.

David Beckham Leaves Brooklyn Beckham Out of New Years Eve Post

In David's recap of 2025, the soccer star shared several photos with family and friends from throughout the year. However, not a single one included his eldest son or Brooklyn's wife Nicola amid rumors of their family rift.

Hour later, David shared throwback snapshots of himself with each of his and Victoria's kids, writing over a black-and-white portrait with Brooklyn, "I love you all so much."

Brooklyn Beckham Breaks His Silence

In January 2026, Brooklyn shared a lengthy statement to Instagram detailing his estrangement with his family.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” he wrote. “I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Among the allegations in his post, Brooklyn claimed his parents “have controlled narratives in the press” about their family, that they have only cared about "Brand Beckham" and that they’ve long been trying “to ruin” his and Nicola’s relationship.

And while he said he grew up with anxiety, since distancing himself from his family he's felt "peace and relief.”
