Weruche Opia & Pablo Schreiber Cast In ‘The Day Of The Jackal’ Season 2 As Series Regulars

EXCLUSIVE: Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You, MLK/X)and Pablo Schreiber (Halo, Orange Is the New Black) have joined the cast of Peacock and Sky‘s The Day of the Jackal for Season 2 as series regulars. They join Eddie Redmayne, who returns as the titular Jackal from Season 1.

The series is based on the Frederick Forsyth novel and the 1973 film adaptation from Universal. It follows an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne), who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee.

The Day of the Jackal‘s freshman season was critically acclaimed and broke ratings records on both sides of the pond. In the UK, The Day of the Jackal‘s freshman season became the biggest new series to ever launch on Sky. The series ranked as a Top 10 streaming original drama during its debut week in the U.S. (Nov. 14, 2024) and ranked again in the Top 10 the week of its finale (Dec. 12, 2024), per Nielsen.

The series comes from executive producers Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Marianne Buckland (Carnival Films), and executive producers Redmayne, David Harrower (also writer), Brian Kirk (also directs), Sam Hoyle (Sky Studios), Sue Naegle, and Ronan Bennett. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handles international sales of the series.

Opia is best known for her role as Terry in the critically acclaimed and award-winning HBO series I May Destroy You. She subsequently received a BAFTA TV nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her contributions to the series. She just completed filming Netflix’s Ladies First and will soon be seen in the Amazon limited series Bait, starring as Riz Ahmed’s agent. She was recently seen starring as Coretta Scott King in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Genius MLK/X on Hulu/Disney+. She is repped by Anonymous Content, Curtis Brown, and SOWDLLP.

Schreiber can now be seen in the Netflix miniseries His & Hers and the action thriller Motor City. He is best known for playing George “Pornstache” Mendez in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination for  Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, and playing Master Chief in Paramount+’s Halo. Additional notable TV credits include HBO’s The Wire, Showtime’s Weeds, and American Gods for Starz. A sampling of film credits includes Den of Thieves, The Manchurian Candidate, First Man, and Skyscraper. Next, Schreiber will be seen in the upcoming Apple TV series The Savant, starring opposite Jessica Chastain. He is repped by Gersh and Circle Management + Production.
