Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are officially engaged. Gomez shared the news in an Instagram post on Dec. 11, captioning the carousel, "Forever begins now." The first photo showed off the sparkling marquise-diamond engagement ring on her left hand, followed by an outdoor private picnic (presumably the scene where Blanco popped the question). At the end of the slideshow was a picture of the happy couple embracing, but we were clamoring to know more about her engagement nails.
The look was created by Gomez's longtime nail artist, Tom Bachik, who shared with us all the tools and exact shade he used to get the "rich girl" manicure, ahead. The vibe? "Beautiful, timeless elegance," says Bachik.
The term "rich girl" nails was originally coined by Bachik in 2022, and since then, he's re-created the look on plenty of celebrity clients — including Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, and Hailee Steinfeld. "'Rich girl' nails are a modern take on a sophisticated classic," Bachik says. "[The] color is a creamy, full-coverage nude playing homage to the greige inspiration originally seen with Chanel."
Gomez's engagement manicure followed this formula almost exactly, using the Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour ($32) in the shade Ballerina, a pinkish high-shine nude. Bachik started out by prepping the nails using the Tweezerman & Tom Bachik Nail Care Travel Set ($29), layered on the nail polish, and then finished by using the Chanel Le Gel Coat ($32), a longwear top coat. Bachik also used the Chanel L'Huile Jasmin Body Oil ($230).
"I'm just so overwhelmed with joy for them both," Bachik says of the big news, and we are, too.
