Wayne Rooney's wild mistakes from prostitution scandals to drink driving as Coleen describes their marriage as a 'battle' following his various indiscretions

They met at just 12 years old while growing up in the Liverpool suburb of Croxteth before going official with their relationship four years later.

And as Wayne and Coleen Rooney prepare to mark 18 years of marriage in June, it is fair to say that their relationship has been anything but smooth sailing.

In 2024 Coleen described her marriage to the former footballer as a 'battle' amid his numerous infidelities.

The couple's marital problems have been well-documented, including Wayne's notorious brothel visits and escort scandal.

Last weekend Wayne was back to his old ways as he was seen looking 'worse for wear' after partying into the early hours with two mystery women at a pre-BRITs bash.

He could reportedly be seen struggling to hold up his trousers as he emerged from the toilets at the swanky hotel, and Coleen has since been seen out and about without her wedding ring on.

Coleen previously broke her silence on Wayne's past infidelities in an interview with British Vogue as she admitted their marriage was 'battle at times.'

The mother of four said that although they've weathered some tough storms, the 'love' between them has never faltered, otherwise their relationship would be 'pointless'.

She said: 'It's been a battle at times, I look at [any] situation we're in and think, 'Could we move forward from that? Is it worth moving forward from that?', I don't just give up.'

Despite their hardships, Coleen managed to find humour in Wayne's betrayals, joking that they've put her in good stead to cope any other misbehaviors of him.

She continued: 'We've never backed away from it. We own it. I remember having a conversation about this with someone and I said, 'Well, do you know what your wife gets up to every day and night? At least I know what my husband's doing!' It mightn't be good, but I know. People lie to themselves.'

Scandal reared its head early on in the pair's relationship after it hit headlines in 2004 that Wayne had visited three prostitutes as a teenager two years prior.

It was discovered that Wayne, who was 16, had paid £140 for sex with prostitute Charlotte Glover, 21.

It was also claimed that at a brothel in Liverpool he slept with Gina McCarrick, then 37, and grandmother Patricia Tierney, then 48, who wore a rubber catsuit and was known as the 'Auld Slapper'.

Devastated Coleen stood by her man but didn't comment publicly on the claims - though later admitted that when the scandal came out she hadn't yet slept with Wayne herself.

Speaking about the incident in 2023, Coleen said they had had 'screaming matches' over his infidelity and she 'couldn't even speak to him' when he first told her the story was about to break to the press.

She said: 'The full story was that when he was sixteen, Wayne had visited prostitutes in a Liverpool massage parlour.

'When Wayne sat me down and told me it was true and that the story was about to break in the national press I was confused and hurt. I couldn't even speak to him. More than that, I felt ashamed.'

'Everyone knew, and everyone seemed to have an opinion. I sat with it all swirling around me like some horrible dream, unable to decide what was best or what I wanted.

'A voice inside me told me not to do anything rash and not to make a decision in the midst of my anger.

'Dealing with that kind of thing was heart-breaking enough, but I was eighteen –years-old. I was upset and confused, not knowing what to think or how others might react.

'I wasn't sure what I felt about Wayne anymore. Also, I knew my family's instinct would be to protect me, and whatever way you spun it, this was not a good look.'

Mrs Rooney, who now has four sons with Wayne, decided to hold a summit with him and hear his side of the story. She reveals how they had a secret meeting at her auntie's home in Liverpool where he admitted that the details were true, though insisted that some of the revelations were 'fabricated.'

The couple also went on a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach where they tried to live some 'normality' – wearing hats and putting their collars up so they were not recognised as they discussed their future.

The pair worked through their troubles and wed four years later in a ceremony in Portofino in Italy.

She said: 'He knew how bad this was, how wrong. He looked down at the floor as he told me how devastated he felt having put me in that situation.

'I was still fuming, of course, and there were definitely a few screaming matches in the days to come, In the end though, I accepted that this had happened a long time ago and that we were stronger now, more committed.

'We weren't the kids we were back then, Wayne was no longer the cocky lad trying to impress his mates. If I'd found out he was having an affair or he'd told me in love with someone else, I couldn't have gotten over it, but that wasn't the case.'

Though their newlywed bliss was short-lived, as it emerged in 2010 that the footballer had slept with two more prostitutes.

Wayne was found to be having secret hotel sessions with call girl Helen Wood (pictured) while Coleen was pregnant with their first son, Kai

In 2017, Wayne was alleged to have enjoyed a 'kiss and cuddle' with Laura Simpson before being arrested for drink driving while Coleen was pregnant with their fourth child

Wayne was found to be having secret hotel sessions with £1,000-a-night prostitute Jenny Thompson and fellow call girl Helen Wood while Coleen was pregnant with their first son, Kai.

Their last meeting was in October 2009, a month before Coleen gave birth.

Seven years later, in 2017 Wayne was alleged to have enjoyed a 'kiss and cuddle' with another woman before being arrested for drink driving while Coleen was pregnant with their fourth child.

The footballer was charged with drink-driving after being caught behind the wheel of a VW Beetle belonging to a woman he picked up after a 10-hour drinking session while his pregnant wife and three sons were on holiday.

Lettings agent worker Laura Simpson, 29, said the pair had 'kissed and cuddled' and she would have 's*****d' him if he had not been pulled over by the police.

Coleen then flew back from Spain with their children and wrote a candid Facebook post about the scandal.

She posted: 'Before all the stories begin, Yes, I have put my wedding ring on....... A lot of people will be saying "you don't have to explain yourself, don't feel like you have to do this" etc, I know I don't, but I am and I want to.

'It didn't feel right wearing my ring, I see it as a sign of commitment and I was unsure what was happening. I don't always wear my ring day to day, especially when I go the gym.'

Insisting she is a 'strong person' and doesn't need people to feel sorry for her, Coleen set the record straight once and for all about her marriage.

She continued: 'A few people are probably thinking I am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on.

'Before the headlines start.... No, I'm not taking Wayne back as he's never left. Yes, it has been a s**t time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end.

'I'm not going to list Wayne's good qualities as a person as I don't think he deserves it at this time but one thing is that he is a brilliant dad.

'He's made silly and selfish mistakes, some he's learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change? In life, you don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.'

Referencing the night of Wayne's arrest for drink driving, Coleen appeared to blame the influence of alcohol for his behaviour.

She wrote: 'One thing I do know is that too much alcohol on a night out is a dangerous and a lot of stupid mistakes are made and things are said under the influence.

'I would never trust ANYONE who has had a lot of alcohol, it changes some people drastically.

Coleen also hit back at fan speculation she was staying with Wayne for his money, insisting that love and family is what is keeping them together.

She added: 'It's my decision .... do I love Wayne ... yes I do. If I didn't then I wouldn't be trying to make it work. I know I would be fine on my own, with just me and my children, but I don't want to live like that, I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family, because that's what I want to do.

'I'm not saying everything is fine and forgotten about, but we are as good as can be at this point, I'm not the type of person to put a show on and say we're all loved-up….I'm just real.'

She later branded her husband's behaviour 'a step too far' in her 2023 autobiography, revealing she didn't think their marriage could be salvaged and, while expecting her fourth child with Wayne, she fled to her parents house with their three sons.

Coleen penned: 'Wayne said he didn't understand why he got in the car with a random woman, but to my mind, there was obviously an intention behind it.'

She continued: 'It left me wondering what might have happened if the police hadn't pulled them over, and that's something I've had to accept and live with.'

Coleen touched on how she confronted Laura in a phone call in a bid to learn the truth.

More incidences with other women came in 2019 when reports hit that their marriage was 'hanging by a thread' after Wayne was spotted drinking with barmaid Vicki Rosiek until 2.30am.

The January incident came just weeks after he was arrested for being drunk at an airport in Washington DC.

Fast forward to the summer, and Wayne was embroiled in another cheating scandal in August after he was pictured at 5.30am in a Vancouver hotel with a mystery woman following a night out with his DC United teammates.

Wayne insisted that nothing untoward had happened, however, tweeting: 'Nothing happened between me and any girl on that night in Vancouver. I did not enter the lift alone with the girl pictured in the hotel foyer.

'The girl pictured in the club was simply one of many who innocently asked for autographs and pictures.'

Later in 2021 Wayne hit headlines once again after pictures emerged of the star partying and falling asleep in a hotel room with young women.

The married father-of-four later admitted he 'made a mistake' and apologised to his family and Derby County after he paid the three party girls £1 to buy the copyright to the images after accusing them of blackmail, prompting them to offer an apology.

Wayne told Sky Sports News after he managed Derby to a friendly victory over Real Betis on Wednesday: 'I made a mistake.

'I went to a private party with two of my friends and from me, I'd like to apologise to my family and the club for the images which were going round and I want to move forward on this.

'I'm grateful to Derby County for giving me this opportunity to get this club back to where it belongs, and I'll do everything in my power to make sure I do that.

'It's dealt with. I'm looking forward to moving forward and preparing for another game.'

Coleen has previously said she relied on the support of her family and her own instincts to help her decide on whether to stay in the relationship.

She said: 'When you're making those decisions you've got to focus on what you want and not other people because you have so many people saying different things to you. 'Oh why is she getting back with him?''

'Obviously I listen to the people that matter to me, my mum and dad always give me a positive outlook on things. There's nothing that we can't deal with and that's my way in a situation - let's sit down and see what we can do and can we make it work? And we have. We're not the lovey-dovey type anyway, we like to have a laugh and we work well together.'

She added that there is some element of truth to the idea that they stayed together for their four boys, explaining: 'That was part of it but also we still love each other.'

'Hopefully he's learnt and he doesn't get himself into any of those horrible situations again. But it's happened and I've got to live with it, if I couldn't cope with living with it I would have ended the relationship.'

The WAG has also addressed his problems with drinking and stated that booze has had 'a lot to answer for'

'Alcohol has a lot to answer for; as far as Wayne is concerned, it's often been his downfall. Often, when something is bothering Wayne, he bottles it up.

'Instead of coming out with the thing that is bothering him, relieving himself of the burden, he pushes it down. Then, sometimes, he'll go off on one, behaving in a way that makes everything worse.'

'I couldn't have known it then, but I'd be tested like this again in the future, more than once. I say the same thing now as I did back then. If you're dealing with something stupid done in the heat of the moment involving alcohol, it might be fixable.

'If love, emotions and ongoing deception are involved then it's a different story.'

Last year Wayne insisted  he would be dead if it wasn't for his wife who he said 'saved' him from alcoholism as he curbed his drinking.

But last weekend he was seen partying once again as he let his hair down with two mystery women at a pre-BRITs bash.

In snaps obtained by The Sun, he could be seen drinking and 'joking' with the women, which reportedly continued for two hours, before leaving with one. The pair then got into separate cars around 3.25am.

One told the publication: 'People who noticed Wayne were saying: "What would Coleen think?" She was nowhere to be seen.

'He seemed like he was having a laugh and joking around with the women.'

Before adding: 'He later left alone. He stood outside where there were quite a few people gathered and got into a car. Around eight minutes later, a taxi came and picked the woman up.'
