Stolas and Blitzø (remember, the "ø" is silent) have a demonstrable history of being excellent at making relationships complicated, especially the one they have with each other. Helluva Boss has put the pair through painful conversations, competing expectations, and the consequences of coming from very different places in Hell’s social hierarchy. Even when their feelings seem clear, figuring out what to do with them has been another matter entirely. That’s part of what makes their future such a big question heading into the animated series’ third season.
Getting these two characters together requires more than an admission that they care about each other, especially with everything they’ve already brought into the relationship. Speaking with Collider's Maggie Lovitt at FanX Salt Lake, creator Vivienne Medrano explained why their next chapter will require some distance, while also teasing another connection viewers should watch closely.
Season 3 will see Stolas and Blitzø grow apart as they work on themselves. Medrano described both characters as broken and dealing with their own trauma, pointing to their vastly different lives and positions in society. For her, those individual struggles are essential to understanding what has been getting between them. “The big thing is love can’t really fix you as an individual,” Medrano explained. She said both characters need to find healing within themselves to become good partners, making their personal growth an important part of the season. That means their feelings for each other won’t provide an immediate solution to the problems they’ve been facing.

Roll The Credits Your Romance Is…
Four love stories, four completely different ideas of what it means to be somebody's person. This is the one that matches how you actually fall, and what it would ask of you.
Harry & Sally
You do not fall for strangers. You fall for the person you have already been talking to for years, which is the slowest and by some distance the most durable way anybody has found to do this.
- When Harry Met Sally made the case that the best romance is an argument you enjoy, conducted over a decade, by two people refusing to admit what is happening.
- You want to be known rather than swept away. Somebody who remembers your worst story is doing better work than anybody arriving with flowers.
- The film is unusually honest about timing. These two are wrong for each other repeatedly until suddenly they are not, and neither of them engineered it.
- You would still be talking about everything at eighty. That is the entire promise.
Love & Basketball
You want a partner, not an audience. Somebody who wants their own life as badly as you want yours, and who would never ask you to be smaller to make the relationship easier.
- This is the rare romance where both people have a real career and the film takes both of them equally seriously.
- You would rather be pushed than protected. The right person for you is also a bit of a rival, and that never entirely goes away.
- It understands the actual problem in ambitious relationships. Not whether you love each other, but whose turn it is this year.
- You would still be competing at forty. That is how you would know it was working.
Heated Rivalry
The intensity was never the problem. The secrecy is. You are drawn to a love that lives entirely in private, and to the particular ache of wanting somebody you are not supposed to want.
- Heated Rivalry runs on the oldest engine in romance: two people on opposite sides, meeting in secret, getting far more attached than either of them planned.
- You keep your private life genuinely private, and something in you finds hidden things more real than public ones.
- The tension is not only between the two of them. It is between what they have and what it would cost either one to say it out loud.
- Years of this, and the whole story is really about whether either of them will finally stop hiding.
Titanic
You do not do this cautiously. When it happens for you it is immediate and total and it rearranges everything, and you would not accept a smaller version of it.
- Titanic gave us the biggest romance in film history and then made it last about five days, which is precisely the point of it.
- You measure love by intensity rather than duration. A few days of the real thing beats decades of something merely comfortable.
- The film is not only about the romance. It is about a woman who went on to live an enormous life afterwards because of it.
- You would still be telling this story at a hundred years old, and telling it exactly the same way.

Stolas and Vassago’s Relationship Will Be One to Watch in ‘Helluva Boss’ Season 3
Image via Prime VideoMedrano described much of the season as the characters finding themselves and “growing apart.” However, she framed that distance as part of the work needed for whatever relationship they ultimately form. Her comments suggest Season 3 will give both characters room to develop individually, even as fans wait to see what that means for their future together. But Blitzø isn’t the only character involved in Medrano’s tease about Stolas’ future, as Medrano also specifically highlighted Stolas and Vassago’s relationship as something that will interest viewers by the end of Season 3’s first part.
She said she was excited for audiences to meet Vassago and discover what their relationship becomes. That leaves plenty of room for speculation, but Medrano didn’t define the connection as romantic. What she did establish is that Vassago will be worth paying attention to as Stolas enters this next stretch of the story. With Stolas and Blitzø also working through their own problems, the tease adds another question to an already complicated season.
Medrano also emphasized that the season’s relationship stories extend beyond its central pair. She pointed to Moxxie and Millie as another couple whose relationship will be explored, while teasing other connections that will grow and change. Stolas and Blitzø may be the characters fans are most anxious about, but they won’t be the only ones navigating a new chapter.
Helluva Boss Season 3 premieres on Prime Video Today, October 14, with three episodes, followed by two episodes weekly through October 28. You can watch Lovitt's full conversation with Medrano below.
