“We’re having a baby,” beaming newlyweds Jack (Martin Henderson) and Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) say at the start of Netflix drama’s Season 7 trailer. But, as the previous six seasons have proven time and time again, nothing has ever come easy for these two. Mel’s patient Marley, who had asked her and Jack to adopt her unborn baby, is seen later in the trailer asking for more time, leaving the couple heartbroken.
“I wasn’t ready for how painful it would be to feel hope again,” Mel says.
“It’s risky. It’s overwhelming, scary. You know what else is risky? Falling in love, and we did that,” Jack reassures her.
In other Mel-Jack developments, they move out of the cabin, which had been their home for six seasons, into the new ranch (“This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another,” Mel says), and they also pick a destination for their honeymoon. It’s in the Northern hemisphere but the trailer cuts away before Mel’s finger lands on the spinning globe. (As Deadline has reported, Virgin River Season 7 featured a location shoot in Mexico, with Breckenridge and Henderson spotted there.)
The trailer does not address the main cliffhanger in the Season 6 finale involving Charmaine and her twins. It also does not reveal what Brie’s answer was to Mike’s proposal in the finale as the two are shown briefly together while she and Brady enter the friends zone.
The trailer hints at potential rough waters for Preacher and Kaia and and a tough battle Doc faces trying to save his clinic as he is seen appealing to his Virgin River residents: “Some of you have lost faith in me but being your doctor is personal to me.”
Lizzie and Danny have their baby but there are indications that Lizzie may be struggling as a new mom.
Also touched upon in the trailer: a potential Doc-Roland-Hope love triangle, Muriel’s cancer treatment and Doc and Everett’s newfound friendship. It also introduces a bull riding new character played by Cody Kearsley.
