Venom's New Color of Symbiote Officially Revealed for First Time

Fans just got their first look at Venom's new green symbiotes, as the antihero's lore undergoes an epochal transformation for The Queen in Black, combining alien DNA and symbiote transformation.

Marvel is currently publishing the massive Queen in Black crossover event, as symbiote god Hela and new god of light Knull engage in a cosmic battle with Earth caught in the middle. Queen in Black #1 comes from Al Ewing, Iban Coello, Zé Carlos's, GURU-eFX and Clayton Cowles.

As part of the crossover, Hela has used her powers to create a legion of new symbiote types, assembling new color-coded symbiote 'legions' which take advantage of the natural abilities of their alien hosts. While most of these new symbiotes had been shown already, Symbiote Legion Green only just got their debut.

Meet Venom's New Green Symbiotes

In May's Amazing Spider-Man 1000/Queen in Black CGD 2026 #1, fans got a preview of Queen in Black #1, as Hela unleashed her new Symbiote Legions on Earth, splitting the Avengers between different nations as her symbiote factions sought out a diverse array of targets.

Fans saw the muscular Mentelleronite symbiotes and vicious Chitauri symbiotes, but not Symbiote Legion Green - the hyper-intelligent, psychic Rigellian followers of Hela charged with terraforming Earth into a 'Symbiote Farm.'

With Queen in Black #1, that just changed, as Scarlet Witch and Vision tangle with the psychic aliens. Usually depicted with large heads and yellow skin, the symbiote Rigellians look more like traditional 'greys,' with symbiote eyes that meet atop their front teeth, and a green version of Hela's scorpion-esque symbol.

The Rigellian symbiotes are a unique threat, since they're far more about psychic abilities and technological genius than other Legions under Hela's control. Each Legion has its specialty as defined by Hela and war god Tyr, making for a thrilling world-wide battle...

Marvel's New Symbiote Types Are a Creative Reinvention of Venom Lore

One of the issues with Venom as a standalone franchise is that all symbiotes have essentially the same powers. Queen in Black is flipping that fact by assigning its new symbiote colors according to their hosts, who have their own alien abilities which are being amplified by their symbiote upgrades.

While the Rigellians unleash forcefields and a terraforming device, the Skrulls steal the show in Queen in Black #1, shrinking down into insect-sized fighters and transforming their arms into drills to attack the heroes from underground.

A new preview of Queen in Black #2 shared by AIPT shows that the Symbiote Legion Orange is likely to be the big attraction for this issue - as Wolverine attacks a Mentelleronite, the alien shifts him through multiple realities to try and disorient him. However, there will also be individual symbiotes with immense power - such as the Venomized Supreme Intelligence unleashed in Queen in Black #1.

Each of these alien species is a pre-existing part of Marvel lore, so it's awesome to see Queen in Black use the excuse of a symbiote upgrade to explore what they can do, and turn them into a combined threat for Earth's heroes. Marvel has finally debuted the last of its new 'Symbiote Legions,' as Queen in Black reinvents what a Venom story can look like.
